What's the difference? I just ordered a GTX 970 and I've been using a 1080p monitor for awhile now with HDMI, is it worth getting a display port cable or does it matter for 1080p? For 1080p, not much. The raw output from the processor's graphics engine is Display Port; using HDMI requires conversion. If your monitor has a Display Port input, using it is going to be cleaner (signals are straight through end to end), but, again, you won't notice much difference at 1080p.
