AC-7265, using PROSet/Wireless Software 19.20.0, can't get the right driver

Hi I'm new to this community. Apologies for my English in advance.

Recently I started playing a MOBA game and I noticed a big time lagging issue while using wifi.

My wifi driver has never been updated since I bought this laptop, its version was 18.40.something. I decided to update it.

So I found this PROSet/Wireless Software 19.20.0 for Windows 10.

Under the description page it says:

" Intel® PROSet software version = 19.20.0

  • Driver version = 19.20.0.6 for Windows® 10 for 8265, 3168, 18260, 8260, 3165, and 17265 adapters.
  • Driver version = 18.33.3.2 for Windows® 10 for 7265, 3160, and 7260 adapters."

Which means I need to install version 18.33.3.2.

However after I installed the PROSet/Wireless Software, I checked my wifi driver and found its version became 19.20.0.6.

During the installation I was not asked to choose which driver version I'd like to install. The software just automatically installed driver version 19.20.0.6.

How can I install the version 18.33.3.2 driver?

Thank you!

Hello Ian4444,

The Intel® PROSet/Wireless Software and Drivers is a package containing the (generic) wireless drivers for all of our currently active wireless products. The reason why it why it does not ask you which adapter you have, or which driver to use, is because it will scan your system and choose the appropriate drivers automatically.

The wireless software and drivers provided in our download center are generic versions, as your system manufacturer may have modified or customized the wireless adapter and it's features while integrating it into your system. For this we always recommend using the latest drivers provided by your http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/topics/oems.html OEM, keeping our generic drivers as an alternative only.

If the PROSet is installing the driver version 19.20.0.6, then it's possible that you may have the http://www.intel.com/content/dam/www/public/us/en/documents/product-briefs/tri-band-wireless-ac17265-brief.pdf Intel® Tri-Band Wireless-AC 17265 instead of the Intel® Dual-Band Wireless-AC 7265. These adapters are commonly confused, as the wireless adapter will display as two separate products: a dual-band adapter (7265), and Gigabit Adapter (which can used for wireless docking).

However, if you're still convinced the installer is making a mistake, you could install an older version of the PROSet, while making sure it supports your wireless adapter. You could also http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/contact-support.html contact support.
