    6i3SYH NVMe boot support?

    grapetonix

      Hello,

Can an Intel representative please confirm if the 6i3SYH, by its latest BIOS revision, supports BOOTING a Windows operating system from NVME M.2 drives, such as the Intel 600p ?

Searched for a bit and found conflicting information.

The answer is yes, absolutely (I have done it). It needs to be understood, however, that it is dependent upon the version of Windows that you use. Windows 10 has built-in support for NVMe drives. Windows 7, on the other hand, does not have built-in support and it has to be added (I believe that Windows 8.1 is in the same boat, but I have no experience using it).

Here is a (albeit non-exhaustive) chart that I put together that details the various NVMe drives and their Windows 7 support:

          Model

          Part Number

          Size (GB)

          Max Read (MB/s)

I have not tested with the NVMe driver that Microsoft back-ported for Windows 7. Someone on the forums says that it works with the Intel 600p drives, but I have not done this myself...

BTW, my experience was with the NUC6i5SYH. The NUC6i3SYH uses the same motherboard as the NUC6i5SYH, but with a different (i3 vs. i5) CPU SOC mounted on it. The two use the exact same BIOS.

          Hope this helps,

Alright - thanks. I will at first try Windows 8.1 (which I unlike the poster above believe is in the same boat as Windows 10; I've seen it work natively in the installer with NVME drives.)
