i7-5775C boot problem

Hello! I have this weird CPU because I got a good deal for it, I have a Gigabyte Z97n Wifi ITX motherboard, 8 GB of RAM, a 480 GB SSD, 7950 Boost / RX 480 GPU.

I have a problem that sometimes, when my PC boots up the booting is made very very slowly, the BIOS screen takes more than a minute to load, then the Windows logo another minute, and then after logging in to Windows, the desktop experience and any program I start gets very laggy and stuttered.

I have tried the 7950 in another PC and it works fine, I also tried booting without the GPU (only iGPU) and the booting is fine, I bought a RX 480 because I thought the 7950 was bad, but I'm having the same problem, I also changed my PSU to a Silverstone SFX 500 W, problem persist.

I don't know if it's the mobo or the CPU, either way I'm fucked because I live outside US and it's difficult to replace parts, but I need to make sure what part is wrong so I can replace it later on, don't want to buy mobo+CPU.

Any help is appreciated guys, I have updated BIOS+Software so any extra help is nice!

Hello Estbarul,

In regard to your concern about your boot issues, you can set up an option for "fast boot".

You can try to follow the steps on the following link:

NOTE: This link is being offered for your convenience and should not be viewed as an endorsement by Intel of the content, products, or services offered there.

And in relation to your lagging issues, please refer to the manofaturer of your video card in order to have their latest drivers.

On this link, you will be able to find the support for your Radeon™ RX 480 Graphics Card and the dirver according to your proper Operating System:

Hello Estbarul,

I forgot to mention, once that you set up the "Fast Boot" option do not forget to choose where do you want to boot from, SSD or Hard disc.

Hello Estbarul,

Through the descriptions of the problem, I guess the problem might lie on the connection between the hard drive (480G SSD) and mobo. How could that SSD connect onto the mobo, like a card placed onto mobo directly, or with a SATA line? If the latter, you might replace it with a better one. If the former, would you please verify your SSD on another PC?

Best Regards,

Aaron Janagewen

It connects with a SATA cable I think, the standard ones that came with the mobo. i might try to replace it, it could be the SSD, I'm going to install Win 10 on another hard drive and check if it works, or maybe take the SSD to a friends house. The weirdest thing is that the behavior is erratic, sometimes boots fine, somtimes it doesn't. Before getting my RX 480 I felt that I needed to "heat up" the PC with 1 or 2 slow boots before it got the 3rd one right, like a car that doesn't start in a cold morning at first try.

Hello! Thanks for the help again! A couple of days ago I got in hand a new PNY 120GB SSD and installed WIN 10 from there, and booted with the same issue.

The laggy boot is still happening from time to time, but with the RX 480 it's happening less than when I had the AMD 7950. Still, when I use ONLY my CPU with the Iris Pro Graphics the PC boots smoother. I feel like it's an issue with the motherboard/CPU compatibility or both.

I hope intel manages to get better with next iterations of Iris Pro graphics as compatibility with hardware (mobos, boot, mGPU support in DX12, etc)

I got a new motherboard, I will try the CPU on it next. I already tried the SSD, the PSU, RAM and GPU, all I'm missing is the motherboard or the problem is the CPU. Hope is not.

Hello! Sure my new mobo is a Asus Z97 - E ATX, it's in transit so I didn't try it yet. But I'll be posting the results and if it works fine. Does intel changes CPUs if there's something wrong with them or does it have to be asked by the store?

Hello Estbarul,

Thanks for your reply.

According to the Supported CPU list (of the Asus Motherboard Z97-E) it confirms:

Core i7-5775C (3.3Ghz, 4C, HT, L3:6M, GT3, 65W, rev.G0)

Validated since BIOS .0704

*Full support of the new CPU requires VGA driver version 10.18.14.4206 or later

You can confirm the list of supported at the following link:

https://www.asus.com/support/cpu_support CPU Support

In case if a replacement it is required, if your product it is within the first 30 days of warranty you can go to your vendor and request the replacement. Otherwise, if the issue persists you can contact us for the warranty request.

Please let me know how it goes in order to further assist you if required.
