What is the latest driver

I ran the Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) V17.0.3.0. (at which time it said it would disable automatic windows driver updates) and restarted

I then ran & installed win64_154028.4501 and restarted

I the went to wndows update, which then said a driver update was available.

I didnt quite know what to do since I believed already had the latest drivers but felt I had no choice since I had another update to install and it was going to install wheter I wanted to or nor.

Now my intel graphic control panel says I have version 21.20.16.4534, driver date according to hwinfo64 is OCT 6, 2016

Should I leave it as it is or reinstall 4501?

thanks

In all likelihood newer builds (exposed by incremental four-digit number) contain bug fixes or performance improvements.

If you are keen on latest driver, there is build DriverVer=10/20/2016,21.20.16.4541 at Windows update.

Hello Stefan3D,

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

CPU: Intel Core i5-6500 (Skylake-S, R0) 3200 MHz (32.00x100.0) @ 3599 MHz (36.00x100.0)

Motherboard: ASRock Z170 Pro4

Chipset: Intel Z170 (Skylake PCH-H)

Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 530 (Skylake-S GT2) - Integrated Graphics Controller [S0/R0] [ASRock] Intel HD Graphics 530, 1024 MB

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I need your advice on going about this the right way for now and in the future. I went to the MIcrosoft Update Catalog, and searched for "Intel Graphics Driver". From what my search revealed, given my current configuration, I refined the search to "Intel Corporation driver update for Intel(R) HD Graphics 530", with this result:

http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/Search.aspx?q=Intel+Corporation+driver+update+for+Intel(R)+HD+Graphics+530+

These are the latest drivers listed, which I assume explains the my latest windows update driver, although Im not sure which one

Intel Corporation driver update for Intel(R) HD Graphics 530 Windows 10 and later drivers,Windows 10 and later upgrade & servicing drivers Drivers (Video) 10/7/2016 21.20.16.4534 153.7 MB 161214889

The only thing i got from a google search for "Intel graphics drivers v21.20.16.4541" was"

21.20.16.4541 (15.45.xx) - 7th and 6th generation (Kabylake, Broxton (Apollo Lake) and Skylake), Windows 10 / Windows 8.…

The link provided brought me "20955803_131b4a89d7d918bb9b001cb23925f0c5e8c0629c.cab".

I could use Winareo to add "intall" on the cab context menu if thats what it comes to, but again, I dont know if thats right one, and I'd really like to get to the source to be self sufficient

thanks

You found the right file. A CAB archive has to be treated like a ZIP file: unpack and install via "have disk method".

Here is a nice step-by-step guide with pictures (ignore that they only mention MS Surface):

Talkin about going full circle This was a lesson for me.

Turns out the automatic update I got was Version 21.20.16.4534, the latest one that was available from the Microsoft catalog.

And I assume the one I was searching for, 21.20.16.4541, is actually a beta, since the latest beta on the intel site is 15.40.xx.4539. Never figured on that.

But I am curious from where that 21.20.16.4541 was sourced?

So now that I have that unexpected recent stable version, whats your opinion on installing a beta? My original driver update motivation came from issues I was having with random OS freezes (where I had to toggle reboot), and random not waking up from sleep, even tho I have sleep, hibernate and fast startup disabled.

The freezes used to happen every couple of days, but not since that latest driver was installed, 3 or 4 days ago now I hope its not a coincidence.

21.20.16.4541 isn't beta. It's a PV version of a 15.45 branch driver.

PV? Please direct me to where I can find these types of files.

I take anything that works.

I don't care if a driver is beta or if it is WHQL certified. Actually i don't know what they test at Microsoft for that certificate.

The difference is the amount of support Intel gives you in this forum as described in the stickies.

You already linked to the file. Your mistake is that you thought all drivers with a higher build number than 4539 must be beta, this is a wrong assumption. Not to mention Intels 4539 beta is based on a 15.40 branch whereas the linked 4541 is a driver from 15.45 branch.

"If you are keen on latest driver, there is build DriverVer=10/20/2016,21.20.16.4541 at Windows update."

Just to clear things up about this. I have been inquiring about a "Intel HD Graphics 530 (Skylake-S GT2) - Integrated Graphics Controller [S0/R0] [ASRock] Intel HD Graphics 530, 1024 MB"

v21.20.16.4541 is not for "530".

Thats why when searching for the latest driver at

http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/Search.aspx%3Fq%3DIntel%2BCorporation%2Bdriver%2Bupdate%2Bfor%2BIntel%28R%29%2BHD%2BGraphics%2B530%2B http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/Search.aspx?q=Intel+Corporation+driver+update+for+Intel(R)+HD+Graphics+530+

it did not come up as a match.

Hello Angie,

For quite some time, I've had varying levels in intensity and repetition of random computer freezes and not waking up from sleep. The worst of it came with he Anniversary update. I'm sure most of us here are familiar with that debacle, and I experienced virtually every devastatting symptom described by others. Ive never seen anything more debilitating.

Along the way I tried different versions of intel drivers, hoping to find a solution. Eventually, I had the motherboard swapped out and the operating system reinstalled. Updated the bios and chipset drivers. Stressed tested the memory. This period of time coincided with upcoming Anniversary updates. Initially, everything seemed better, and I crossed my fingers that everything would remain ok.

However, a few days later, I was extremely disappointed that the random freezes started again. Not nearly the same havoc I experienced before...sometimes once a day, more likely 2-3-4 days apart. No warning, no error message or blue screen...everything just freezes in its tracks, a manual reboot is required, and things are back to normal (whatever that is)

The last time it happened was the day after the latest Intel drivers, v 21.20.16.4534, that I discussed earlier were installed.

Less frequently than in previous times, it wont wake up from sleep. I usually get a screen message saying "retrieving data", which quickly reverts to "no signal", whereupon a manual reboot is required.

The puzzling thing about this is that I have sleep, hibernation, and fast startup completely disabled.

This is why I was seeking information and advice about other driver possibilities, because I thought i had the latest available driver , according to the Intel website, but windows update proved that was not the case.

I cant say the drivers are the issue, but that's the first thing most everyone refers to when these kinds of things occur.

Hello oromine,

According to your confirmation, it is correct.

The proper and latest driver version, for your Intel® Core™ i5-6500 Processor, with Intel® HD Graphics 530 this will be the latest one:

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26228/Intel-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-10-and-Windows-7-8-1-15-40-?product=88345 15.40.28.4501 (for a full version) released 8/12/2016

And this other one:

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26347/Intel-Beta-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-10-and-Windows-7-8-1-15-40-?product=88345 12.40.xx.4539 (for a Beta version) released 10/20/2016

The last one it is the latest as a Beta version that was recently released. Please try to do a Manual Install of the first one and confirm if there is any issue and if it persists, try with the latest version.

http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/graphics-drivers/000005629.html How to Manually Install an Intel® Graphics Driver in Windows®

Then, if you are not able to solve your concern with any of the driver, try to confirm if your equipment requires a Windows update, and if it is needed complete it and do a test confirmation.

Please let me know how it goes.

Regards,

Angie.

Hello Angie,

Please read this thread form the start. I believe all your suggestions thus far have been addressed, including the fact that I currently have version v21.20.16.4534 installed, which was downloaded from the Microsoft Update Catalog and is a later stable version than the one available on this site (which I had previously installed).

I have not installed the beta because according to the description "This beta version driver is being made available to address game issue when playing Battlefield 1 and Fifa 17 on Intel® graphics devices"

Since that does not apply to me, do you still believe it will be helpful to install it?

All the latest windows updates have been installed.

thank you

Hello oromine,

You are correct, our latest signed generic driver for 6th Generation graphics controller is version 15.40.28.4501, available for download here:

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/product/80939/Graphics-Drivers Downloads for Graphics Drivers

Keep in mind that Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) may customize their drivers to ... Since the driver v21.20.16.4534 was obtained from Windows Update, this would be a driver build that is separated from our generic drivers, even customized. You can either choose to try with our generic driver or use the ones supplied via Windows Update, or even directly by your OEM.

Kind regards,

Angie.

I'm still not sure I understand where v21.20.16.4534 comes from. This link to Intel drivers for my motherboard mfg. has drivers that are over a year old.

http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Z170%20Pro4/?cat=Download&os=Win1064 ASRock > Z170 Pro4

But it seems that I dont have much choice but to use v21.20.16.4534 since if I would revert back to version 15.40.28.4501, windows update would immediately include it in an update.

21.20.16.4534 comes from Intel, all driver comes from Intel. The only difference is the hosting source, in this case Microsoft. Intel did release 21.20.16.4542 by the way.

Thanks for the latest info. Im still not exactly sure what the proper criteria is for finding the appropriate driver for ones needs on this site or elsewhere.

For instance, v15.40.28.4501 page is the latest stable version of the 15.40 series. Under "This download is valid for the product(s) listed below:, my I5-6500 is listed

I do have http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/graphics-drivers/graphics-for-6th-generation-intel-processors/intel-hd-graphics-530.html Intel® HD Graphics 530 , the search for which which brought me to

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26404/Intel-Graphics-Driver-15-45- Download Intel® Graphics Driver [15.45] , version 15.45.10.4542. Under "This download is valid for the product(s) listed below:, https://downloadcenter.intel.com/product/88345/Intel-HD-Graphics-530 Intel® HD Graphics 530 is listed, But it turns out that this version is for 7th generation intel processors.

On this page is my 6th generation, http://ark.intel.com/products/88184/Intel-Core-i5-6500-Processor-6M-Cache-up-to-3_60-GHz Intel® Core™ i5-6500 Processor (6M Cache, up to 3.60 GHz) Specifications

The drivers download link there, http://ark.intel.com/products/88184/Intel-Core-i5-6500-Processor-6M-Cache-up-to-3_60-GHz# @downloads Intel® Core™ i5-6500 Processor (6M Cache, up to 3.60 GHz) Specifications

leads you back here, https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26228/Intel-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-10-and-Windows-7-8-1-15-40- Download Intel® Graphics Driver for Windows® 10 and Windows 7*/8.1* [15.40] , the v15.40.28.4501 page.

The Intel Driver Update Utility says while I have 21.20.16.4534 installed, v15.40.28.4501 is the latest.

My update history shows my latest driver installed on 11/4, and my machine crashed the next day, but not since.

Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1607 for x64-based Systems (KB3200970) was installed on 11/9. Maybe that's part of a solution, who knows. Just have to wait and see.

Hello oromine,

To provide you with more information in regard to your concern. On the driver number:

15.40.28.4501

The last four digits determine the driver version .4501, as the latest Official Intel® Graphic Driver. And the other digits are the "build in" number that it is used for internal identification.

In order for you to confirm the latest drivers from the official Intel website, you will need to follow the next steps:

1. With the model of your Intel® Core™ i5-6500 Processor, you will confirm the graphic version on our product website:

http://ark.intel.com/ http://ark.intel.com/

2. Then, once that you confirm that your graphic according to the model of the processor that you have provided is: Intel® HD Graphics 530

3. On our official Intel Driver website you will submit the model of your graphics:

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/ https://downloadcenter.intel.com/

Also, if after the version that I have provided to you there is another driver released you will be able to find in on that website.

Just to confirm to you, the drivers that I have provided to you, they had been found manually on the Intel® Official Website.

Kind regards,

Angie

I understand all this. So can I infer, when seeking updates in the future, that only 15.40 builds would apply to my hardware?
