    NUC6i7KYK 7.1 surround setup

      Im using windows 10 and have updated all drivers using the update tool.

      I have connected the NUC to my new samsung HT-F9750W using HDMI cable.

      But when checking speaker setup I can only select 5.1.

       

      Any hints?

            Im not sure about the cable, but its says "high speed" on it.

            I followed the guide but I still cannot choose 7.1 surround in the speaker setup.

              Do you know brand and model of the cable? We will need to check the specs for the cable in order to confirm if it is 2.0.

              Are you able to choose 5.1? Can you set and test it? It's just for testing purposes.

              One more thing, I know you mentioned you are update with the drivers, but I would like to gather more information in regard to your system in order to address this issue, so please provide me with the following report Download Intel® System Support Utility. Once done attach the report.

                I bought a 2.0 cable today and tested again, but no change.

                I am able to choose 5.1 and the sound test works fine.

                    Hello Crille,

                     

                    I see that you were told to check this guide https://downloadmirror.intel.com/26061/eng/NUC6i7KYK%20HDMI%202.0%20Firmware%20update%20Read%20Me.pdf but did you actually run the HDMI 2.0 firmware tool? The tool is available here: Download HDMI* 2.0 Firmware Update Tool. Make sure everything is connected when running the tool and please let me know the result.

                      when I run the tool it says first ´´the HDMI adapter has been detected. It is connected to an INTEL GPU.´´

                      I click ok, then an error appears ´´OUI mismatch!´´

                      I click ok, then a confirmation dialog appears and I choose ´´Yes´´

                      A new window appears and I click on the ´´Update Firmware´´ button.

                      Then a new error appears ´´Product ID error! Please check your firmware!´´

                      After I click ok I cannot close the program using exit (disabled) or close, I have to use the task manager to close it.

                       

                      Does this mean my receiver dont support HDMI 2.0?

                        I am doing some more digging on the error messages that you are reporting, in the meanwhile, would you mind checking if the Samsung* HT-F9750W is HDMI 2.0 capable?

                        I checked everywhere on Internet and couldn’t find any reference to that, usually when third party devices don’t advertise anything I assume it is HDMI 1.4, but I could be wrong of course.

                        The only manual I was able to locate is this: Table Of Contents - Samsung HT-F9750W User Manual [Page 5]

                            Hi Crille, after a bunch of searching and one of our staff speaking to Samsung, this is what I've found.

                             

                            1. The Samsung HT-F9750W is not HDMI 2.0, thus why the firmware updater did not work.

                            2. While the device advertises itself as 7.1, it seems it's truly a 5.1 system that can be setup via software as 7.1.

                             

                            The reason I say the 5.1 vs 7.1 is for a few reasons. 

                             

                            1. If you look at the actual output from the device, there are only 6 speaker outputs (taken from Samsung HT-F9750W review ):

                            vs a 7.1 receiver which has 8 outputs :

                             

                             

                            2. The diagram on the user manual itself (taken from: http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/content/UM/201307/20130712142932026/02630G-03_F9750W_XU_20130708.pdf ) only shows 5 speakers, both on the top and bottom of the page.

                            This is just what I've summed up by Googling, I could be wrong, but to me, since there are only physically 6 outputs, that's all that can be done via the computer and that the extra 2 channels have to be configured via the Samsung software.  Lastly, to make sure you've set up the NUC correctly, please check out this page: 5.1 Home Theater PC Setup Example and download: Download the guide to configure Windows and Media Player Classic to output surround sound.  In particular step 10.
