I recently bought an ideapad 300 and it's a great machine. The only issue I came across is that the Chrome browser shows some graphics error (seen in picture)Chrome graphic issue
This behaviour is quite common - however, a simple mouse selection or even hovering over the obstructed area is enough to make the screen work again. This only happens with Chrome (I've seen people with similar Firefox issues), and sometimes the entire screen becomes unstable and freezes. In these situations, the notification "chrome.exe was blocked from using graphic.." used to pop up, but with the Windows 10 anniversary update and some settings tweaking, I was able to revert that. Sometimes the problem occurs but solves itself within fractions of a second (and actually that just happened now). I tested the matter using a hangouts screensharing and it picked the problem too.
I have also seen people with HP computers having similar problems, even with the same graphics card/processor combination. Any suggestions are warmly welcome.

Hello lorenzo-flldr:
"The notification "chrome.exe was blocked from using graphic.." used to pop up, but with the Windows 10 anniversary update and some settings tweaking, I was able to revert that."
What exactly did you do?
I noticed that you have an older driver version, so let's try updating it. See here for the latest driver version https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26228/Intel-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-10-and-Windows-7-8-1-15-40-?product=88355 https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26228/Intel-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-10-and-Windows-7-8-1-15-40-?product=88355, and I recommend using this method for the installation http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/graphics-drivers/000005629.html http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/graphics-drivers/000005629.html.
Let me know how it goes.
Regards,
Amy.

I switched the conservative morfological anti alising setting to off, as it was recommended even for some people with Firefox issues, and some other things I don't quite remember but seem not to have worked. I am updating the driver now (at the time of the post on Lenovo forum, it was the latest).

Does the issue persist with version .4501?
One more thing, could you please check what is the version of Google Chrome you have installed?
Regards,
Amy.

Yes, and it seems to happen in "batches", that is, when it happens once, it's very likely to happen twice and so on.
I forgot the chrome version!
Chrome 53.0.2785.116 m (64-bit)

Have you tried using a different browser?
By any chance, have you noticed what triggers the corruption?
Try changing the setting for the hardware acceleration in Chrome, Go to Menu > Settings > Show advanced settings > Under System, uncheck "Use hardware acceleration when available" and restart Chrome.
We have several systems with Intel® HD Graphics 520, but we haven't experienced this behavior. We are running Intel® HD Graphics version .4501.
Regards,
Amy.

I use firefox without any problems;
The problem doesn't seem to have a trigger; it looks random.
I'll run the .exe file to update again

The .exe version is the same version that the .zip version, they just have different methods of installation.
This behavior is strange, so we need to make sure that your system is up to date. Please, try updating the following components;
- BIOS version; http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/300-series/300s-11-ibr/downloads/DS118298 BIOS Update for Windows 10 (64-bit) - ideapad 300S-11IBR - Lenovo Support (US).
- Intel® HD Graphics driver http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/300-series/300s-11-ibr/downloads/DS104683 Intel VGA Driver for Windows 10 (64-bit) - Notebook - Lenovo Support (US), this is the version provided by your computer manufacturer.
- Run Windows Updates.

Amy.

Hello, I didn't try the BIOS update because I don't want to risk it. Other software is up to date, and the issue have not appeared since

So far, no chrome issues. However, yesterday the whole screen froze, but in a way that is different from the issue commented here. I believe that's an unrelated event that came up, since I was using the pc quite vigorously at the time (video call, screen share, double monitors..... it was a busy day). Let's wait and see
