Intel 530 series 180 GB not recognised by Windows 10 setup

This week I bought a Intel 530 series 180 GB for my Medion Akoya E1232T notebook to replace the 500gb hdd (installed: Ubuntu 16.04 and Windows 10 dual boot)

The product code of the 530 series = SSDSC2BW180A4K5 / version G88473-201.I prefered a clean install, so I downloaded from the Microsoft site Windows 10 ISO (USB setup)Unfortunately Windows 10 did not recognised the SSD and asked for a driver.

I have tried the same with Ubuntu 14.04 and 16.04 and they both recognised the SSD and work both very fast with the SSD.

I also tried to update the firmware of the SSD but the ISO (Fissdfut_2.1.5.iso) did not boot. All other ISO's (Linux, Windows ect boot without any problems)

Has anyone a solution for me so that I can install Windows 10?

Thanks in advance.

Hello Frank58,

Thanks for posting in our forum. We understand you would like to have Windows® 10 installed in your new Intel® SSD 530 series but the installation is not detecting the drive. It seems the system should be able to install Windows® 10, however, could you please check with the OEM in order to verify if the BIOS is updated and if they can provide a driver, which it is weird since this is a SATA drive. We know the SSD works fine since you were able to load other operating system on it with no problem.Let us know the outcome.Regards,NC

Hello,

I have contacted Medion servicedesk and they told me that if there is anything changed in the original hardware configuration of the notebook they will not give any support.

I have now put back the orginal hdd and will try a firmware upgrade for the notebook and 530 serie SSD (if they are available).

If anyone has any suggestions please let me know.

Thanks.

Hi Frank58,

Maybe by upgrading the system's BIOS it will possibly help, however, we cannot be 100% sure. Would it be possible to ask them if they have a compatibility list of supported SSDs?We believe the problem may be related to a system compatibility.Regards,NC

Hello,

I have checked the firmware of the 530 series (in another notebook) and it is up to date.

The firmware in the Medion Akoya e1232T is also up to date.

I have tried the following. I have placed the 530 series ssd in another notebook (MSI) and installed Windows 10 on it. No problems, everything ok.

I replaced the SSD in the Medion Akoya and tried to boot. No booting,

Next I installed Ubuntu 14.04 next to Windows 10 with Grub as boot manager. Ubuntu reconised Windows 10 without any problem during the installation.

On booting up SSD not recognised. No Grub menu.

I will now send a mail to Medion for a SSD compatiblity list.

Keep you informed.
