How do I increase my display resolution higher than 1920 x 1080 for a 32" monitor?

I purchased a new (larger) monitor but the highest "available" resolution is 1920 x 1080 which does not keep original documents and icons at the original size. The purpose of a new monitor was to have more space to work on not make the objects I'm working on larger...

What can i do?

I would like to know more information about your system configuration.

I need the Intel(R) graphics controller model or the processor model and the operating system version
