    Ferdinand_Koppelman

we use an WDS Server 2012r2 with mdt 2013.

the client get an ip address when we start the nuc with F12,

than: PXE-E55: ProxyDHCP service did not reply to request on port 4011.

the NUC5 works fine. no problems whit boot pxe.

          Hello Ferdinand_Koppelman:

From our side basically the things that you need to enable on the BIOS for the Intel® NUC to work with a PXe boot configuration are:

Network boot needs to be enable, you can find that option under boot configuration.

On boot priority, you need to disable Legacy, because if legacy is enable, the UEFI boot will be automatically disable, and the UEFI network boot is needed for PXe boot.

Under the power option, please enable USB S4/S5 power.

Is the latest BIOS version installed?

Here you have the instructions to do a BIOS update using the F7 method:

          http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/boards-and-kits/desktop-boards/000005724.html

And here you have the .BIO file needed to do the update to version 0051 which is the latest:

          https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26195/BIOS-Update-SYSKLi35-86A-?product=89186

Is the NUC on the same network than the server?

          Did it work fine before?

Any questions, please let me know.

            Hi,

No the NUC6 didn't work with PXE boot. The NUC5 works fine.

i disable the legacy boot (the bios will be gray out. no action possible)

I have enable the USB S4/S5 power.

            No result..

              Hello Ferdinand_Koppelman:

The reason why if you disable legacy, the BIOS gets gray out, is because maybe Windows was installed on legacy, and in order for the PXe to work, Windows needs to be installed on UEFI.

              Steps to install UEFI Windows:

Create a UEFI USB bootable device, you can do that on the following link:

              https://rufus.akeo.ie/

NOTE: These links are being offered for your convenience and should not be viewed as an endorsement by Intel of the content, products, or services offered there.

Enter the board BIOS and enabled “UEFI Boot” and disable legacy

              Save changes and exit bios

Press F10 several times when the NUC is starting up, in order to get the boot menu.

From the drives listed, pick the UEFI / USB flash drive.

Follow the Windows set up and then select the HDD/SSD you want to use for the installation.

Please let me know the results of trying the steps above.

Any questions, please let me know.

                Hi,

When we boot after installation by USB/EUFI (works fine!) the NUC give the following message: downloading nbp file

                Succeed to download nbp file.

Then it’s goes back to the bootoptions.

What’s wrong? On the WDS Server? On the NUC?

                Another devices  give no problems.

The problem could be related to compatibility with the operating system.

As you can confirm on the following link, the NUC supports Windows® 10, 8.1, 7- 64 bit:

                  http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/boards-and-kits/intel-nuc-boards/000005628.html

So, is there any way that you can try the PXe boot, using any of the operating systems listed as fully compatible?

Any questions, please let me know.

                    Hello,

                    we use a Windows 10 x64 bootimage.

the pxe boot works fine on new desktops and the NUC5.

                    are you available by phone?

You mentioned you test it on a different NUC, do you have the option to test the PXe boot on another NUC but the same model?

At this point, since the problem persists, the nest thing for us to do will be to try to replicate the case.

Did the PXe boot worked before on the Intel® NUC6i3SYK NUC?

Yes it works fine on pc's and nuc5

You mentioned you test it on a different NUC, do you have the option to test the PXe boot on another NUC but the same model?

we tested several nuc's, but al the same problem.

                              to pxe boot:

                              in the bios:
On boot priority, you need to disable Legacy, because if legacy is enable, the UEFI boot will be automatically disable, and the UEFI network boot is needed for PXe boot.

Under the power option, please enable USB S4/S5 power.

                              the latest bios version.
