It is recommended to use straight video cables without adapters. The HDMI video port requirements might not receive the proper voltage from the DVI cable after re-installing it.
I suggest you to narrow down the issue. Go to Dell support website and make sure you are using the latest BIOS, chipset drivers and Intel – Nvidia graphics drivers.

I am using the latest drivers, everything is updated, so this shouldnt be an issue I think.
What kind of cable should I use? The laptop has only a HDMI video output and the monitor has only the display port, DVI-D and VGA. So I dont think that I can some kind of straight video cable without adapter or can I?
