Hi PCMAN99,

Thank you for sending me the results of SSU. I noted your system already have the latest graphics version and latest BIOS. Could you please tell more about the issue?

Make sure you have the latest board drivers.

ok, i give u more Details, iam on a Windows 7 x64 using Windows Updates to give me important Windows updates. Usually the Intel Graphics update was optional, but this time its marked

important. I remember to read something about a security problem with drivers older than 4463. So basically Windows wants to update the driver, but fails.

If i manually check out with the Intel Driver tool it says: no update availible, but Windows gives me an unsupported important Update.

I could hide it, but is that really the solution?

Hi PCMAN99,

I verified with the graphics specialist and the latest driver for Windows 7 is version 4414 and for Windows 10 is 4463.

Now, you have a pre-build system, it requires customized drivers from its manufacturer so our generic might not work in your system. But in your case, you already have the latest driver.

I suggest you the following:

Make sure your pc has the latest BIOS and drivers from Dell website

http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/Products/?app=drivers

Run again Windows 7 update. If you still get an issue, take a picture of the error code. I will try to get a solution.

Hi Mike,

first of all thank you, but i dont have a pre built system from DELL, i have a self assembled PC with an Asus Board.

i usually manally update the drivers of my system, also did a Bios update. The Intel Tool gave me the 4414 driver which is fine for me,

but the Windows Update lists me an IMPORTANT update of my graphics card (which it never did, they offered it always as optional update)

i cant see the Driver Version, it just says: Intel Corpoation driver update for Intel(R) HD Graphics 4600 147,0 MB and published 28.07.2016

i wouldnt care if its an optional update, but this is marked as IMPORTANT, any installation attempt (out of the system, or with uninstalled 4414, using

vga driver) gives me Error Code 80070103.

Some research gave me this webside : http://www.wilderssecurity.com/threads/vulnerability-intel-hd-graphics-windows-kernel-driver.387094/ Vulnerability Intel HD Graphics Windows Kernel Driver | Wilders Security Forums

whichs says older driver have a security problem in Windows 7 and can be exploitet, so i think it has something to do with this,

as they say:

"Intel issued an important security patch Monday for a vulnerability that could allow hackers to execute arbitrary code on targeted systems running Windows 7. The bug, located in Intel's HD graphics Windows kernel driver, leaves affected systems open to a local privilege escalation attacks that could give criminals the ability take control of targeted systems."

so, i think this might be the important update, which Windows offers me, but fails to install.

i could ignore this and hide the update, but in questions of security i dont know if thats the best way to handle it?

any advice?

Best wishes

Sascha

Edit: i looked up my Software Distribution Folder inside Windows and found the driver files, the ini says this:

;======================================================================

; Installation INF for the Intel Corporation graphics adapter.

;======================================================================

[Version]

Signature="$WINDOWS NT$"

Provider=%Intel%

ClassGUID={4D36E968-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

Class=Display

CatalogFile=igdlh.cat

DriverVer=06/13/2016,20.19.15.4474

looks like Version 4474 ? maybe it helps...

Best wishes

Hi PCMAN99 and USMCVet ,

Use this utility to completely clean files and registry, and set the default windows driver : http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html Display Driver Uninstaller Download version 16.1.0.0

Before you install any other driver, please download the driver .zip archive, unpack it and look in the directory for a file "Installation_Readme.txt"

Your CPU is from Haswell generation.

Look in that file under "Platform / Operating System(s): "

Under "4th Generation Intel(R) Core(TM) processor family (codename Haswell)" is specified what windows versions is the driver for.

If you try to install a Windows 10 driver on windows 7 it will not work ...

From what I know latest drivers for Haswell are only for windows 10 ...

Hi PCMAN99,

Ronin is right; the latest graphics version 4474 is just for Windows 10. There is an issue with Windows 10 update.

Thanks for your help, but as i mentioned i didnt download a zip, if i try to install any higher driver as 4414, it rejects installation with

a message like: "not suitable for your system", 4414 installes fine, but when windows 7 looks for updates, it finds an update,

marked as important, which is probably the 4474 driver but fails to install. so either MS screwed up their updates or intel?

Actually those drivers were installed before, on windows 7, 8.1 and 10 by myslelf on Intel HD 4600 ... so I think it is a problem on your system only, or ms screwed things again on their update system, with their updates.

ive seen more systems with exactly the same problem (both other 2 were Asus Systems)

so it looks more like a Windows Update Problem, as they want to send me 4474 which isnt for my System,

but they declare it as suitable and important

It is in Important category ? I think MS really wants to mess up windows 7 ... How about put updates to Check and let me choose whether to download and install them ?

Yes, as mentioned before, its marked as important update, probably cause of this link:

http://www.wilderssecurity.com/threads/vulnerability-intel-hd-graphics-windows-kernel-driver.387094/ Vulnerability Intel HD Graphics Windows Kernel Driver | Wilders Security Forums

which was fixed by intel, but it seems this fixed driver isnt compatible/suitable for the 4600 HD Graphics in Windows 7

i can hide the update, so it wont show up as failed installation, but is this really the best solution? or do i still have a vulnerable System?

Still no answer yet

Windows Update trying to install the following driver:

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26078/Intel-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-10-and-Windows-7-8-1-15-40-?product=80939 Download Intel® Graphics Driver for Windows® 10 and Windows 7*/8.1* [15.40]

Which is compatible only with newer generations of Intel HDG according to igdlh64.inf from C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\Download\Install. It seems that Intel accidentally submitted wrong version to WU without any checks.

Hi All,

The latest HD 4600 driver for Windows7 is 4414. Now, for 6th gen processors the latest driver is 4474 and it works on Windows 7, 8.0, 8.1 and 10.

You can verify the latest graphics driver per operating system at

Hi PCMAN99,

It is a Microsoft issue. Hopefully, they will stop suggesting it soon.
