According to the product brief http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/boards-and-kits/intel-edison-boards/000005664.html Edison only supports 802.11 a/b/g/n. If you wish to add additional standards to the Edison, then you’d need to make modifications to the BCM43340 driver. The BCM43340's driver can be found in https://github.com/01org/edison-bcm43340 . If you wish to modify the Broadcom driver then you should contact https://www.broadcom.com/contact . Broadcom developed this driver so that it could be used with the Edison so they’ll be able to provide a more accurate response.
