Windows 10 is not free for this unit unless you have Windows 7, Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 and you decide to upgrade to Windows 10.
TechnoCaveman you can see the operating system supported for the Intel® NUC6i7KYK at:
As you can see on the link above Intel has not validated any Linux* operating system to work with this system but some customers reported good experience with the Gentoo*, you can see all that information at the link I posted above.
Windows 10 is not free as it is not an upgrade but a new install.
I ordered Windows 10 Pro on USB drive from Amazon (no endorsements, just facts) Cost $99 USD - you cost may vary
With SSD in PCIe slot, NUC booted off USB with no issue. Install was quick. USB drive came with a key to type in.
Keyboard & mouse was USB connected, monitor was HDMI. All drivers loaded fine. Hard part was navigating Windows 10 to find WiFi.
NOTE: if using ACHI mode SSD, hit F2 during POST, or start up, and go into the BIOS so the NUC will boot from that. Yes AmericanMegatrends BIOS interface recognized the mouse.
Why use a ACHI SSD? - NVMe PCIe drive is still in the mail. Just know it works.
Next I'm trying SATA SSD boot.
Thank you. Yes, even the Clear Linux website does not reference the Intel NUC. Install, be happy but no support implied. Sadly there are only so many hours in a day.
Yes, a good experience.
Next purchase is a multi hour 19V battery pack, also from Amazon for $200. Another unsupported mod but I've gotten "laptop" spoiled about working even if the power flickers.
