I checked the information about this shield, it uses Serial Communication at 9600bps and 8N1, you can get this with your Edison. The next step would be the libraries, I saw there are some Arduino examples, you can try with this but as you may know the Edison do not has the same libraries the Arduino has because they have different hardware and architecture so there could be some conflicts, if this is the case I suggest you to use the MRAA library to control the pins with the API.
Thanks for providing this information. The EMIC 2 examples use the SoftwareSerial.h library which, as you correctly point out, is not supported on the Edison board.
I will use the MRAA library and see how I get on.
