In order to enable sound through the HDMI, please follow the next steps:
Click Start > Control Panel > Hardware and Sound.
Click Sound. The Playback tab lists the audio playback devices for your computer.
Right-click on the device for HDMI audio, and select Set as Default Device.
Right-click and select Test. If you hear a test tone, click OK.
Make sure the HDMI cable says: “High Speed HDMI Cable”, otherwise the cable might not be a good quality cable.
Make sure to install the latest graphics driver for your NUC:
Also, you can look on the settings of the monitor and look for sound options; sometimes you can see the option to enable HDMI sound in there.
Thanks for your reply. I re-tested all of your input. But it is not working. Used a cable from our tv which is having sound but nothing on the NUC. Reinstalled the latest drivers but nothing. And yes the sound via the HDMI device as standard on the HP 24nq screen.
Is there anything to do or is it the driver?
The next thing to try now will be to do a BIOS update to the latest version which is 0044:
There might be drivers available for the monitor, I looked for them on HP’s web site, and I found one, on the following link you can see it to install it:
Also, on HP’s web site, there is some information containing troubleshoot steps for HDMI sound problems, here is the link so you can verify them, those steps might be helpful:
Hi and thanks,
I have installed the BIOS update 0044 (it already was this version). So no improvements.
Also looked at the HP site but nothing there I didn't already tried.:-(
I reinstalled the driver you pointed out, just in case, but no improvement.
Also the other link I had tested before I tried again but no luck there. Anything else?
I just wanted to check some details.
You said that the HDMI sound works with your HP laptop, are you using external speakers?
The HDMI cable that you are using is 1.4?
I was checking the details for that monitor and it seems to be there are no integrated speakers on it, so external speakers will be needed:
