Intel driver update utility Detects 4th Gen Graphics as 3rd Gen

I Have 4th Generation i5 4690k Processor and 8 GB DDR3 RAM. There was no issue on Windows 8.1 at the beginning. Then I upgraded my OS to Windows 10 and Intel driver update utility Started detecting my graphics as 3rd Gen on both OS Windows 8.1 and 10. When I Install 4th Gen Drivers, they crash while playing some games, it shows dedicated video memory only 128 MB even when selected 512 MB DVMT From Bios settings and total available graphics memory 4034 MB. When I installed 3rd Gen Drivers Everything Worked Fine, dedicated video memory 512 MB and total available graphics memory 1135 MB. So is there any way to make 4th Gen Drivers work again properly? Any Solution please?

Thank you for the information provided.

Which was the driver version installed for the 4th and 3rd generation, each driver please?

The current driver is validated to work with the 4th generation of Intel processors. Is it working fine with your system?

I look forward to hearing from you.

It works fine but doesn't show the Dedicated Graphics Memory as 1 Gigs like it does with 3rd gen driver.

Thank you for your answer A2L, do you happen to remember the driver that works with your system and the one with the issue? This information would be great to have in order to attempt to replicate the issue and further assist you.

Hope can hear from you soon.

And see how auto detect detects wrong driver I have installed 4th gen driver win64_154022.4424 Still it suggests me [15.33] and it works fine too when I install, it shows everything right.

Thank you for your answer A2L, let me double check if I understood this scenario correctly.

-When you have installed the version 15.40.22.4424 that was developed to work with 4th Generation Intel® Core™ Processors and above, the system is not working properly ("they crash while playing some games", "it shows dedicated video memory only 128 MB even when selected 512 MB DVMT From Bios settings")

-Then you go ahead and install updates as per the Intel® Driver Update Utility to the version 15.33.43.4425 designed to work with 3rd Generation Intel® Core™ Processors, and the PC behaves correctly, works fine with that driver.

Please let me know if this is correct.

Understood, let me try to replicate this with the nearest configuration available from my end.

In the meantime, may I have some of the titles that you have crashes with?

Will keep you posted for sure.

Hello, A2L:

I just finished up with the testing from my end.

I was able to test the behavior of the system while using 15.40.22.4424 driver, the performance was ok but I got a game crash after using the Save and Quit option from BO2

One driver that helped was 10.18.15.4271 from the manufacturer of the device, I did not get the game crash as noted above with this driver.

In regard to this driver 10.18.15.4271, it is specially provided by the OEM for the device used on my end to perform these tests, this driver was installed after using the "Update Driver Software" from the device manager so you could give it a try.

Another troubleshooting step to perform would be removing the driver software completely, please check procedure below and then install different graphics drivers.

How to remove the driver software?

-Access the device manager (you can use windows start to search and find it).

-Look for Display adapters double click on it.

-Right click on your Intel® HD Graphics and hit properties.

-Go to driver tab and hit uninstall.

-Select "Delete the driver software for this device"

Drivers to be tested:

I attached the information taken from the tests performed on my end, this includes the graphics settings used in the game as well.

About the game crashing with the 4424 drivers, I will be taking that into investigation to further support on that matter. Will keep you posted on that investigation, in the meantime, it would be to perform the tests advised above and possibly find a driver that helps you with this.

154010.4300, Beta: 15.40.12.4326, Beta 15.40.23.4444 don't show DVM correct but they ran without crash (I had freezing issue with world of tanks on previous driver) and now I have installed 154025.4464 didn't get crashed yet, it's not showing DVM correct either. What about auto detect utility issue, can we fix it?

Hi, A2L:

I was checking that you already have the latest BIOS for your motherboard installed, but as per the description, I can't tell if the microcode was updated with that BIOS release.

The microcode is the one that has all the instructions to properly use/handle/recognize a CPU, so this can be related to the issue we are seeing in here, for that reason, I would like you to check with ASUS support to know if an specific BIOS release added the microcode for 4th Generation Intel® Core™ Processors which is yours.

With that information, we could have a clearer overview of this scenario, and know whether or not the update is included in the last BIOS release (to be aware if the update is present in your motherboard).

Here the support page for your motherboard: http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/H97PLUS/HelpDesk/?SearchKey=h97-/ http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/H97PLUS/HelpDesk/?SearchKey=h97-/

Please keep me updated with this situation.

Utility used to work fine on same BIOS update, all went wrong after installing windows 10, and now switching back to windows 8 or 8.1 gives the same result.

Driver 15.33.14.64.3412 works fine and shows the right information but it's UI isn't compatible with windows 10.

I understand your concern A2L, but Intel recently released a new driver for Intel® HD Graphics 4600 and others that I would like you to use with your system.

Also, where you able to get in contact with Asus to ask about the BIOS thingy I told you about? I am positive that could help.

Hope this new driver helps with this scenario.
