Hi!

I have an ASUS GL552VW notebook, with the Intel HD Graphics 530. OS: Microsoft Windows 10 Version 1511 [Version 10.0.10586] 64 bits

I had (sometimes) color problems after turning off the screen, since the Intel Graphics Driver, Version: Beta 15.40.18.4380 | Date: 2/5/2016. Please see picture below.

I tried all available Intel Graphics Drivers:

- (..)

- Version: 15.40.14.4352 | Date: 12/23/2015: Without the color problem after turning off the screen.

- Version: Beta 15.40.18.4380 | Date: 2/5/2016: With the color problem after turning off the screen.

- (...)

- Version: Beta 15.40.26.4474 | Date: 6/24/2016: With the color problem after turning off the screen.

Hi Greaser,

I reviewed the results of SSU and I noted the current BIOS version is old. The latest version is 218.

Also, your computer has hybrid graphics, it means Intel® graphics works together with Nvidia Geforce GTX 960M.

I suggest you the following.

-Update the BIOS to the latest version; verify if you are using the latest laptop drivers

-It is recommended to run ASUS Live Update Utility; this tool will keep your computer up to date.

Hi Mike C!

Thanks for the reply, but why do I only have this color problems since the Intel Graphics Driver, Version: Beta 15.40.18.4380 | Date: 2/5/2016 ? What can the BIOS version affect this issue?

I ran the ASUS Live Update utility and it says: "No updates".

Hi Greaser,

BIOS update improves the hardware compatibility. We need to narrow down the issue; there are many causes: video driver, video cable, monitor, operating system and others.

-Did you already try to downgrade the video driver to the previous version?

-There is a new generic graphics driver for HD Graphics 530 version 4444 available in the link below:

Intel® Beta Graphics Driver for Windows® 10 (4444)

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25957/Intel-Beta-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-10-and-Windows-7-8-1-15-40-?product=88345 https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25957/Intel-Beta-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-10-and-Windows-7-8-1-15-40-?product=88345

Manual installation:

1-Download the zip file of the driver from downloadcenter, unzip and keep file in the desktop.

2-Turn Internet connection off

3-Go to device manager>Display Adapter, right click Intel HD graphics and select uninstall driver (check delete box)

4-Restart the computer

5-Go to device manager>Display Adapter, right click over Microsoft generic driver select Update driver, browse search for graphics folder at desktop (step 1)

6-Restart system and review graphics driver version installed from device manager or Graphics control Panel.

Please move both ends of the video cable, sometimes the cable just needs to be plugged again properly.

I will be waiting your results.

Hi Greaser,

It is the first time that I hear about this issue. We don't have any other case related to this issue.

I suggest you to try with the manual installation of the latest graphics driver (post 5)

Hi Mike C!

Manual installation of the latest graphics driver does not solve this color problem after turning off the screen.

The problem reported in the first message remains.

Between the Intel Graphics Driver Version: 15.40.14.4352 | Date: 12/23/2015 and Intel Graphics Driver Version: Beta 15.40.18.4380 | Date: 2/5/2016 must have changed something that causes this color problem after turning off the screen.

Hi Greaser,

We have seen the issue in few cases. In most of them, the video cable was a mini Display Port. Please try a test with any other high speed cable.

With the current video cable, I suggest you to move the video connector just to verify if it is possible to fix the issue.

Hi Greaser,

Sorry for the misunderstanding, I got confused with your case. Pre-build systems require customized drivers. In your case that our generic drivers and newer OEM drivers are not working properly in the laptop, it will be necessary to get in touch with your manufacturer and request a workaround or pc maintenance.

http://www.asus.com/support/ Support Center | ASUS Global

At this point, the workaround available will be rollback to the last known good graphics driver.

Hi Greaser,

Thank you for your feedback. You already tested your laptop with our last 4 generic drivers plus the drivers available at Asus website. As a technician I am pretty sure there is something wrong with your unit.

Get in touch with Asus and request for service.

Hi Greaser,

Well, I would say it is a coincidence. We already tried to rollback the driver version and the problem still remains.

Hi Mike C!

I contacted ASUS and they told me: "being one driver created by Intel we will have to wait until they launch another driver to correct the error."

Hi Greaser,

Intel released a Beta graphics driver last week; the version is 4474. You can give it a try but I am afraid you are experiencing a hardware issue instead of software.

Hi Mike C!

I've tested this version. Please see my first message. Whenever a new version comes out I test and update my first message.

1) With the Intel Graphics Driver, Version: 15.40.14.4352 | Date: 12/23/2015 I do not have this problem, which leads me to believe that is not a hardware issue.

2) Another note, when this problem appear if I just uninstall the driver, without restarting the laptop this problem disappears, which makes me believe it is a bug in the driver.

Best regards,

Greaser
