I suggest that you try to upgrade to the latest BIOS using the Recovery method (instructions here: BIOS Recovery Update Instructions for Intel NUC). Once you have the NUC running on the latest BIOS, go into Visual BIOS (using F2), use F9 to set the BIOS configuration to factory defaults and then modify those BIOS configuration parameters (like Boot Order) to match your hardware configuration. Remember to save the settings when exiting from Visual BIOS.

P.S. What happened is the BIOS update (which happens after the reboot) was aborted because BIOS POST failed during the reboot. You may have a memory compatibility issue. I might suggest you remove one of the DIMMs and see if this makes a difference...

i opened the case and removed one of the dimms, the usb was plugged in and then i was able to install 0042. the recovery mode appeared. ( i didnt remove the jumper.)
