And which brand of RAM module(s) do you use?
First I have to say I don't use OpenSuSE 42.1, but, because it's seems to be from ~11.2015, I'm not sure if it will fully support the Skylake...

I hadn't considered the kernel version as a consideration. I'll push up to 4.5 tonight and see if that helps. I can also try Windows 7. I'll post back here later with the results.
Yup, it looks like it was the kernel version. I was on 4.1 and in reading the release notes, it looks like there's a lot of Skylake stuff that went into 4.4. I upgraded to 4.5 (an easy upgrade since OpenSuSE's bleeding edge "Tumbleweed" distrobution uses it) and I've been up for several hours now.
I'll post again if anything changes, but this looks to have solved it. Thanks haus!
