Hi, I just noticed that my computer isn't OpenGL supported when I open Adobe After Effect CS6 preference, the OpenGL column is blank.

My computer spec is :

and the HD Grapchic version is :

I went to the download section of this website trying to find an updated driver for HD 4600, but I'm confused which driver that I should download because on the downloadcenter link :

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25588/Intel-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-7-8-1-15-36-?product=81496 Intel® Graphics Driver for Windows 7/8.1* [15.36]

This download installs the Intel® Graphics Driver version 15.36.28.4332 for Windows* 7 and Windows 8.1 supporting 4th and 5th Generation Intel® Core™ Processors

I cannot find my Intel CPU i5-4460 listed in this section :

This download is valid for the product(s) listed below

I know there is a link to automatically update my HD 4600 driver, but I prefer to download it manually so in case I'm re-install the OS - I don't have to download again from the internet but just install it from the file I download here.

Below is what I found in the HD4600 Graphic Properties :

Any kind of respond would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advanced.

Hi Al Hill,

Thank you for your respond.

Intel HD Graphics 4600 supports OpenGL 4 as per this document "4th Generation Intel® Core™ Processors"

I wonder why my Adobe After Effect can not find the OpenGL of HD 4600 ?

I've been thinking that it's rather weird if it is because of an outdated driver After Effect can not find it while I just bought my computer last year.

Anyway, I will try to update the driver

Your processor can be found here: http://ark.intel.com/products/80817/Intel-Core-i5-4460-Processor-6M-Cache-up-to-3_40-GHz Intel® Core™ i5-4460 Processor (6M Cache, up to 3.40 GHz) Specifications

Thank you for the info. But still I wonder which kind of drive should I download ?

My CPU model (i5 4460) is listed in

Intel® Beta Graphics Driver for Windows* 7/8.1/10 [15.40]

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25541/Intel-Beta-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-7-8-1-10-15-40-?product=81496 Download Intel® Beta Graphics Driver for Windows* 7/8.1/10 [15.40]

BUT, it's also listed in

Intel® Iris™, Iris™ Pro, and HD Graphics Driver for Windows* 7/8/8.1 64bit

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25232/Intel-Iris-Iris-Pro-and-HD-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-7-8-8-1-64bit?product=81496 Download Intel® Iris™, Iris™ Pro, and HD Graphics Driver for Windows* 7/8/8.1 64bit

also in

There are four drivers where each page say it support i5 4460 and can be use for HD4600.

It confuse me which one that I should choose...

Thank you once again for your kind respond, All Hill.

regards.

I cannot help you with what Adobe reports.

Yes, finding the appropriate (and latest) can be very confusing. The four drivers links you listed are all "old". The latest I can find is here, dated 11-mar-2016 (unless the Intel support staff can provide a later link):

Hello, reko:

Thank you for contacting the Intel Communities.

The driver provided by Al should work with your system.

Regarding the software not detecting OpenGL (supported up to 4 by your Intel® HD Graphics 4600), have you checked with the software developer support to find any additional troubleshooting on this?

Some settings changes could help with this.

I look forward to hearing from you and the outcome on this.

Hi All,

Thank you once again for your kind reply,

I went to the link you gave me, but again I found that Core i5-4460 is not listed in the :

This download is valid for the product(s) listed below

Anyway,

for the time being I will just leave my computer like this until I found out what is the exact problem why my After Effect can not find the OpenGL.

I really appreciated your effort to help me.

That's very kind of you

regards.

Hi Esteban,

The driver provided by Al should work with your system.

I wonder why the i5-4460 (and also HD4600) is not listed on that page, ya ?

What I found from the list is i5-5xxx above.

Regarding the software not detecting OpenGL (supported up to 4 by your Intel® HD Graphics 4600), have you checked with the software developer support to find any additional troubleshooting on this?

You are right. I should also check about Adobe software.

I've already searched from the internet in case there is similar problem like mine (After Effect user facing similar OpenGL issue with HD4600), but I didn't find it.

Now my strong feeling about the "problem" is not from HD4600 but something else .

Some settings changes could help with this.

https://helpx.adobe.com/support.html# /top_products https://helpx.adobe.com/support.html# /top_products

Thank you for the link you gave me. I will go there and look about it.

I look forward to hearing from you and the outcome on this.

For the time being, I think I will not updat the HD4600 graphic driver yet as I feel it's not the HD4600 problem.

I will first try to look around in the net, or maybe trying to find a small application which need OpenGL feature and have a look whether the app find it or not.

I will post my search result here.

Thank you once again for your respond, Esteban.

regards,

reko.

Hi,

You can search for HD 4600, and it will give you the drivers compatible with your iGPU.

Also I checked what drivers are compatible for your iGPU and all drivers for HD 530 are also compatible.

They are working on the driver page again ... Maybe they figured out how to make the driver page more easier.

This is for HD 4600 : https://downloadcenter.intel.com/product/81496/Intel-HD-Graphics-4600-for-4th-Generation-Intel-Core-Processors Drivers & Software

This is for HD 530: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/product/88345/Intel-HD-Graphics-530-for-6th-Generation-Intel-Core-Processors Drivers & Software

Hi Esteban,

I've just read from this link :

http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/graphics-drivers/000005575.html How to Access OpenGL* and DirectX* 3D Graphic Settings

I wonder, how do I get to the setting section as mentioned in that link ?

(something like : Triple buffering on/off, Texture color depth on/off).

Thank you.

Hi Ronin,

Thank you for your explanation and the link you provide.

I click this link (the one from you) : https://downloadcenter.intel.com/product/81496/Intel-HD-Graphics-4600-for-4th-Generation-Intel-Core-Processors Drivers & Software

downloadcenter.intel.com/product/81496/Intel-HD-Graphics-4600-for-4th-Generation-Intel-Core-Processors

But then I realize, I've visited that page and I did mention of this page in my second post.

In this page, there are a lot of drivers to choose and after clink each link, I found that there are 4 type of drivers which meet my i5-4460 (because it's listed).

I wonder, if it doesn't matter which driver to download although on the driver's page i5-4460 is not listed ?

I mean, I may choose whatever driver listed in the link you provide https://downloadcenter.intel.com/product/81496/Intel-HD-Graphics-4600-for-4th-Generation-Intel-Core-Processors Drivers & Software as long as it's Win 7 64 bit as this my computer spec ?

downloadcenter.intel.com/product/81496/Intel-HD-Graphics-4600-for-4th-Generation-Intel-Core-Processors.

What does it mean "Iris" ya ?

Is my HD4600 "Iris" ?

regards.

I looked for Intel HD 4600 on the drivers in the second link, and you can try to install those also.

Hi Ronin,

Thank you for your time to have a look about my issue.

I looked for Intel HD 4600 on the drivers in the second link, and you can try to install those also.

Oke then.

So... it's safe to choose which driver that I can download between these two links :

Intel® Beta Graphics Driver for Windows* 7/8.1/10 [15.40]

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25541/Intel-Beta-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-7-8-1-10-15-40-?product=81496 Download Intel® Beta Graphics Driver for Windows* 7/8.1/10 [15.40]

or

Intel® Iris™, Iris™ Pro, and HD Graphics Driver for Windows* 7/8/8.1 64bit

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25232/Intel-Iris-Iris-Pro-and-HD-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-7-8-8-1-64bit?product=81496 Download Intel® Iris™, Iris™ Pro, and HD Graphics Driver for Windows* 7/8/8.1 64bit

Those 2 links are :

1. listing the i5-4460 in it's page

2. listed in the HD 4600 : https://downloadcenter.intel.com/product/81496/Intel-HD-Graphics-4600-for-4th-Generation-Intel-Core-Processors Drivers & Software page.

I'm very sorry to be so awkward. But to be honest, I'm afraid to install driver to my computer because if suppose it doesn't go well - as I don't know much about computer, then I need to bring the computer to a shop to repair .

For the time being, I'm still looking about the "problem".

Today I just use an app called "GPU_Caps_Viewer_1.26.0.0" .... and the app did told me that my HD4600 has OpenGL support.

I just don't understand why my HD 4600 properties (control panel) is different with the following picture (also HD 4600)

/servlet/JiveServlet/showImage/2-298089-244212/1.jpg https://communities.intel.com/servlet/JiveServlet/showImage/2-298089-244212/1.jpg

also I can not find a way to setting section just like in this link :

http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/graphics-drivers/000005575.html How to Access OpenGL* and DirectX* 3D Graphic Settings

Thank you once again, Ronin.

The Intel Control panel is different because on the newer drivers on windows 8.1 and 10 it is changed. That link with the setting you have there is for older drivers ...

If you want driver for Windows 7 then I think the only driver you can use is this: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25588/Intel-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-7-8-1-15-36-?product=81496 Download Intel® Graphics Driver for Windows 7/8.1* [15.36]

For windows 8.1 and 10, you have more recent drivers

Hello, reko:

Some additional troubleshooting that can be performed:

1. Access the device manager and look for display adapters.

2. Right click and properties for Intel® HD Graphics 4600.

3. Go to driver tab and select uninstall. Please make sure you select "Delete the driver software for this device".

4. Restart your system and install a compatible driver, it can be: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25848/Intel-Beta-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-7-8-1-10-15-40-?v=t https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25848/Intel-Beta-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-7-8-1-10-15-40-?v=t

2nd section of troubleshooting:

-Contact the manufacturer of your motherboard and request instructions on how to perform a BIOS update, I recommend you to contact them due to the fact that a BIOS update can harm your device if not done properly.

-Run some benchmarks and look for OpenGL scores or related information: http://www.spec.org/gwpg/downloadindex.html http://www.spec.org/gwpg/downloadindex.html

-Download Ccleaner and look for registry issues (free version is good to be used): https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download

Regarding the support for your processor and the drivers provided, you can double check the Read Me (txt) links in the download page and find if the 4th Generation Intel(R) Core(TM) processor family is present there, if it is, the driver should work with your system.

About the OpenGL* access, this API is enabled by the graphics driver, in the options mentioned in the article provided, you can check if it's Attributes are on or off (there is a list in the article, in this case, it would be to check that you have either performance for "General settings" or custom and enable the attributes you have there.

Iris is used by processors intended to higher graphical usage, Intel® HD Graphics for good graphics, you can check which one your processor has in the Graphics specifications here: http://ark.intel.com/products/80817/Intel-Core-i5-4460-Processor-6M-Cache-up-to-3_40-GHz http://ark.intel.com/products/80817/Intel-Core-i5-4460-Processor-6M-Cache-up-to-3_40-GHz

Have you checked with the developer of the software for further troubleshooting on this?

Hi Esteban,

Yes, I've checked to Adobe and it turn out the AE version (11.0.0) in the computer is not supporting HD4600 but HD4000.

Need to upgrade to a newer AE version, then AE will recognize the OpenGL from HD4600. So the "problem" is not from HD4600.

I'm sorry for the trouble.

I should've asked the Adobe first rather than here .

Thank you once again to all poster who help me here.

reko.
