HD 530 game graphic errors

CWals1

I just installed Tomb Raider 2013, through Steam, and although it seems to run fine there are constant graphic errors in the display. They occur during all game play. Video bits, like transition scenes, are fine. I know that Intel HD 530 will run this game as there are examples on YouTube. I tried updating to the latest driver, even the beta one, with no change. Also no improvement from changing the game settings to low or trying various settings in the 3D part of the Intel HD Graphics Control Panel.

Can you help me?

Thanks, Chris

Provide a detailed description of the issue

Running video game "Tomb Raider" (2013), video display exhibits odd errors, with extraneous bars or lines extending to edge of screen. See screen shot and attached video.

Does it fail every single time, or only sometimes?

If you can offer a % rate please do.

This happens to varying degrees 100% of the time when in game-play. Video portions of the game (like transition scenes) display fine.

Hello, okanagan:

Thank you for all the useful information provided on this.

Let me perform some tests and to get this reviewed.

I will keep you posted.

Another recommendation would be to post the issue at Steam's communities or directly to the game's developer forum.

Regards,

Thanks Esteban.

I did post on Steam's communities and someone suggested I try configuring the game to use DirectX 9 instead of 11. I just had to go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Crystal Dynamics\Tomb Raider\Graphics and change the RenderAPI value from 0 to 9. That improved the situation but did not clean it up completely. I look forward to hearing from you.

Chris

I found that DP and not HDMI works if you have a late kernel, 4.3 or so, and no nomodeset.

This is a minor bug that I'm sure will be fixed as time goes by and Skylake becomes popular.

I don't use an external vhttp://goo.gl/8Ur2QK ideo card, just integrated Intel.

Thanks for the suggestion. I can't try DP, my motherboard doesn't have one.

I think it will get fixed too but it's more than a minor bug...the game is unplayable without the revert to DirectX9 work-around.

Hello, okanagan:

After performing some testings, we were not able to replicate the issue in our end.

System specs:

-Dell Inspiron 13 7000 series.

-CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6500U

-GPU: Intel(R) HD 520 Graphics

-RAM: 8GB

-OS: Windows 10 Home

-Laptop connected to an Acer Monitor B286HK (3840x2160) via HDMI.

-Driver: 20.19.15.4404

Additionally, you can test with the settings used in our end.

-Monitor resolution set to mailto:1280x720@60hz 1280x720@60hz

-Set the display to "Single" and main display is the EFP.

-Settings in the pictures attached.

Some other suggestions:

* Try setting BIOS defaults.

* Try different screen resolutions.

I look forward to hearing from you and the outcome.

Hi Esteban,

I'm running the BIOS defaults and I have tried various resolutions and options and nothing works except as I mentioned earlier, making this registry change:

RenderAPI - change value from 0 to 9 in

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Crystal Dynamics\Tomb Raider\Graphics

I was told this forces the game to use DirectX9. Whatever it does, it works and clears up 95% of the issue.

I don't think there is anything out of the ordinary about my system but it does differ from from what you used for testing. I have:

CPU i5-6500

Intel HD 530 Graphics

Anyway, I've now ordered a video card that I expect will fix everything.

Thanks for your help,

Chris

Hello, okanagan:

I understand, thank you for your answer on this.

Is this happening only with that game?

You could also run some benchmarks (from third party developers) to force the iGPU (integrated GPU in the CPU) and see if the problem is present there as well.

This is to check if you are facing an issue with the Graphics of the CPU, meaning internal GPU of the CPU.

Additionally, please check that your RAM is runnin wwithin the specs of your CPU: DDR4-1866/2133, DDR3L-1333/1600 @ 1.35V, higher speeds can affect the system's performance.

I look forward to your outcome with this.
