triple display. Intel HD530. 3rd monitor connected to displayport blinks periodically endlessly.

problem when the 4k monitor is connected to usb-c displayport adapter, in a triple display setup.

laptop + 1080p monitor + 4k monitor over displayport.

In this setup, the 4k monitor just blinks and blinks while the other 2 screens stay steady. This happens both when screens are cloned or extended. The monitor on the displayport blinks periodically.

If only the 4k monitor is connected to the laptop via displayport in a DUAL monitor setup, then it is fine, no blinking of the 4k monitor.

Only triple monitor with 4k over displayport results in blinking of the 4k display.

This is similar to the previous issue with 4k monitor blinking if connected to thunderbolt3 usb-c hdmi adapter in a dual monitor setup.

The latest graphics driver fixed this issue.

Before, if you connected a 4k monitor over usb-c hdmi adapter, you would get periodic blinking, just like the video above shows.

specs:

Asus G501vw notebook

i7 6700hq, HD530, optimus gtx960m,

AOC U2879G6 4k monitor connected to thunderbolt 3 usb-c hdmi 2.0 adapter

Asus Vh238 1080p monitor connected to hdmi 1.4 port

Latest non-beta intel graphics driver.

same thing happens with the latest beta driver.

How do I submit a bug report about this issue?

and is there a log somewhere that tells me why the monitor keeps turning on and off on the displayport when 3 screen are displayed?

Intel® HD Graphics 530 supports three monitors; however, this is an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturers) system, Contact your computer manufacturer to find out if three independent displays are supported and what configurations are supported with your specific computer or motherboard model. Intel provides general information about Intel graphics features. However, your computer manufacturer can incorporate customizations and might not support all general graphics features.

yes, i was using newest beta drivers.

triple display works when using all HDMI ports.

So 4k on hdmi1 + 4k on usb-c hdmi2.0 adapter + laptop 1080p screen, works fine.

In the video I posted, I had 1080p monitor on hdmi1 and 4k monitor on usb-c to displayport adapter and the 1080p laptop screen.

This is when the displayport monitor started blinking.

If I remove the monitor on hdmi1, then the displayport monitor stops blinking and behaves normally.

The reason I posted this issue is that the newest Intel graphics drivers solved a previous issue where a monitor connected with thunderbolt/usb-c hdmi adapter would result in that monitor blinking in the same way.

You guys solved that issue, so I have faith you guys can solve this 3rd monitor blinking on displayport problem too.

If only there were some sort of logging/debug tool that I could use to help Intel make a bug fix...

Thank you for your feedback it is very much appreciated, hopefully a new driver will come up soon to solve more issues.

 

 

At this is point, what I think is that the usb-c to displayport adapter is causing some interference with the signal and that's why you get that blinking monitor, please bear in mind that Intel recommends straight connection when you are using one or more than one monitor to avoid any interference.

Just for testing purposes, take one of the 4K monitor, and lower the resolution to 1080p, and let us know the outcome, basically if the issue continues; but having still the blinking monitor connected in the DP port.

 

 

What is the hub model you are using (Model and maker)?

What do you mean hub model? I am not using any hub.

You mean usb-c displayport adapter?

It's just a plain old usb-c displayport adapter under the Cellet brand.

if you google "cellet usb-c displayport", it's the first hit.

Just for testing purposes, take one of the 4K monitor, and lower the resolution to 1080p, and let us know the outcome, basically if the issue continues; but having still the blinking monitor connected in the DP port.

There was only one 4k monitor, and it was connected to the usb-c displayport adapter.

All other displays are 1080p resolution.

Even if I lower the 4k displayport monitor to 1080p resolution, it still blinks.

While the displayport monitor is blinking, Nvidia control panel says that all three displays are connected through the Intel gpu. See attached...

new beta driver did not solve issue.

dual display works with displayport, triple display (laptop screen+ DP + HDMI) does not.

the thunderbolt3 port carries a displayport signal by design, and the adapter transfers this signal passively.

one monitor on DP and another on HDMI should be able to coexist.

Asus has replicated this issue in its own testing.

Perhaps Asus will be working with Intel to solve this issue.

Did you test the latest Beta driver that it was recently released.

yes, the beta graphics driver did not help.

Asus claims to have a hardware solution that requires motherboard replacement. I guess we can assume this issue is solved.
