I'm not familiar with the book you mention, nevertheless I assume it must have passed a few months since it was published, so it may be outdated. For that reason I would suggest you to follow the official guides to build Galileo's image. In that case I would suggest you to follow Quark's BSP 1.2.1 (http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/embedded/products/quark/quark-x1000-bsp-build-sw-rel-user-guide.html). In that document you will find the instructions on how to build Galileo's image including how to use bitbake.
