1. Re: DX58SO boot roulette: doesn't POST if shutdown more than 3hours, and now, no boot at all
Domain Mar 29, 2010 5:31 PM (in response to tom_d)Seems to be a reoccuring problem with these boards... are you getting absolutely no video, or do you end up with a cursor in top left hand corner on boot? Strange as it sounds you might try pulling any add-on devices (particularly SATA devices if you were running in AHCI/RAID mode)...
The BIOS recovery process seems to be somewhat sketchy as well... these boards seem to be particularly picky about what they will/won't see in a recovery situation. I had 2 identical 1GB USB drives, one that the board would recover from, and one that wouldn't. The only difference being that one was essentially blank, and the other one was not.

2. Re: DX58SO boot roulette: doesn't POST if shutdown more than 3hours, and now, no boot at all
tom_d Mar 29, 2010 5:52 PM (in response to Domain)Thank you for your reply.
I'm getting absolutely no video at all, the PC is turned on but it does nothing, my screen is waiting for a signal which never comes.
As you said, it seems to be a common problem and I'm really shocked that there's no official answer from Intel: what can we do now? Can we rely on these motherboards? What is wrong with the crazy boot process of the DX58SO? Does the DX58SO include a dice or a timer to decide if it will boot or not??
My USB key is totally blank, the one and only file on it is the BIOS recovery file. A recovery system on a motherboard is always a good point, but from my experience, it never worked. I was expecting an improvement from Intel in this year 2010. I'm so disappointed.
I will remove the CMOS battery again and I will give a try tomorrow morning. It's my last chance before a RMA, but, as I said previously, I won this mobo from a web site, so, I don't have any proof-of-purchase...

tom_d Mar 30, 2010 5:56 AM (in response to tom_d)I put the CMOS battery back on the mobo and you know what? Epic fail, still a blank screen, can't get BIOS, no activity, NOTHING.
My mobo is definitively bricked.
Good job Intel.

tom_d Mar 30, 2010 6:30 AM (in response to tom_d)I called the customer service: "sorry, you won the mobo and you don't have any proof of purchase, I can't help you. Bye."
Woohooh...

7. Re: DX58SO boot roulette: doesn't POST if shutdown more than 3hours, and now, no boot at all
Nico Mar 30, 2010 8:29 AM (in response to tom_d)my second guess is your memory. get one dimm running at 1066Mhz @ 1.5V default (SPD-programmed) - i'd say kingston is a good choice.
put the initial bios release on the usb-stick, and boot in recovery mode. wait 10 minutes and turn off. don't bother the black screen, in case you dont get video at all.

tom_d Mar 30, 2010 9:03 AM (in response to Nico)Tried with a tested dimm.
Nothing new.

msedek May 1, 2010 7:21 AM (in response to tom_d)Hey dude, where are you from?, maybe if you speak spanish we could figure out the problem.. anyways.. I got the exactly same problem as you and I really think the problem is around the watchdog, because I have read many many treads and in all the cases the mobo got to work again they havent turned off the watchdog and mine was disabled before I flashed the Bios with the 5020 bios update LONG time ago, it was disabled cause I was testing with 4 memory sticks, now I got no post no video signal, nothing, the only Thing i got its the fans spinning all the leds on and 3 beeps if I remove the memory, and same as you it does not read from the usb key or usb cdroom or sata cdroom.... no matter what..
The watchdog prevents the board from getting stuck from bad overclockings and somehow allowed the system to boot with the 5020 failure configuration, and I know that for sure cause I got another dx58so wich I flashed with the 5020 also and I didnt disabled the watchdog and all was good till i reflahed with the 5200 bios update wich is stable.
I dont know but maybe we could work around this to solve the problem but I bet my life that all the problem we are having is the disabled watchdog, for now we CAN NOT reflash the bios just because we disabled the watchdog.. I think intel dont know this.. maybe they could help some if they know..

10. Re: DX58SO boot roulette: doesn't POST if shutdown more than 3hours, and now, no boot at all
tom_d May 1, 2010 8:37 AM (in response to msedek)I come from France.
After a looooooooooong talk with Intel (and tests I had to pay myself to prove my good faith!!!), they replaced the mobo.
It comes with a 4598 BIOS and I'll not update because everything is working fine (for the moment). The watchdog is enabled by default.
So, final words: there's a big problem with the 5020 BIOS and/or DX58SO mobo but Intel doesn't want to accept it.

josemaster May 1, 2010 9:52 AM (in response to tom_d)Hi there
I have the same problem here... I purnchase the mobo at march 18 and get it yesterday (I live in Venezuela).
No video, no beeps (with or without memories in any slots), nothing happen when CMOS is cleared
I tried it with CD with .BIO file = nothing happen
I tried it with CD burned with .ISO file = nothing happen
I tried with 2G USB drive with .BIO BIOS file = nothing happen
The pc turn on and off with any problems. Don't turn off by itself at any time.
I'm very dissapointed with this intel mobo because it is my second one (the first was RMA to amazon because it run only by 2 or 3 hours before get two red led on for all eternity)
I'm have been looking around and my conclusion is the Intel mobo is not compatible with an Intel CPU... Very nice Intel!
My config:
mobo: E29331-702
Core i7 920 D0
Dual channel 4GB Corsair PC1600 / 1600MHz
Thermaltake Thougpower 750 Watts
ATi Radeon 5770 1GB
Western Digital WD10EADS 1TB

msedek May 1, 2010 11:40 AM (in response to josemaster)Hi Jose, I am from Venezuela also, but you dont have the same problem as us, because you aint getting beeps without memory, if you can get your hands on a Step C0 cpu to test, then go for it, if the mobo boots then reflash the bios with the last bios update from intel website the 5200, then connect your cpu and if it fails to boot then your cpu is dead but if it fails to boot with the step C0 cpu then your mobo is dead..

13. Re: DX58SO boot roulette: doesn't POST if shutdown more than 3hours, and now, no boot at all
msedek May 1, 2010 11:43 AM (in response to msedek)Tom_d. intel agreed and they know about the 5020 bios issues but any persnon who flash the bios with the 5020 (and other non working bios) with the watchdog disabled will brick the board with no chance as far as I know to get it to work again..
