Regarding IRST 9.5, I found this new article tonight concerning Intel updating the core logic set of the P55. See the article's fourth bullet point that specifies the move from IMSM 8.9 to IRST 9.5.

    http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/mainboards/display/20091110195417_Intel_Updates_Latest_P55_Core_Logic_Set.html

It would be nice if we had a definite release date for this and when it will show up on Intel site.

    hi to all

    system specs:

    ASUS P6T SE

    4* 750GB WD RE2

    WIN7

i was trying to build raid5 with my brand new 4xWD RE2 hdds, but with no success for the whole week: due random disks constantly failing, computer freezes and so on.

i was trying to build raid10 too, but with no success.

but... raid0 with 4 hdds was working just fine for the whole 2 weeks! even with intel matrix storage manager 8.9!

    what i found:

my raid10 system becomes stable only when i disconect from internet!.. no matter what imsm i am using.

i thought that it was faulty onboard lan or drivers, so i disabled onboard lan card in bios and installed additional pci lan card. but raid system still was unstable. so i unpluged lan cable. from that point - no one freeze for the whole night!

atm i am finishing building raid10 with imsm 8.9 without errors for the whole 7 hours, when it was impossible before due constant freezes in 10-20mins.

just for the sake of completeness ill try to connect my internet cable when ill finish my raid10 migration.

ill try to make raid5 too - before it was impossible.

now i am sitting and thinking: i wnat stable system, but what i would do without possibility to connect to internet?..

i am confused. plz help me.

    regards,

    EpicSaga

That is really interesting cause i also noticed the failure after i connected the network cable. it was working fine before that. and my mobo is P6T deluxe V2 which im pretty sure shares the same lan chipset with P6T. lets see what Intel thinks about it. cause frankly i dont think you could call it coincidence.

Very strange. Could the on-board LAN and the RAID controller be sharing the same IRQ? That shouldn't be a problem, but it's worth a look (in the BIOS).

Have you tried installing the latest Ethernet driver (from the OEM, not from the motherboard manufacturer)? The ASUS P6T Deluxe uses the Marvell 88E8056 LAN controller. ASUS has version 10.10.7.3 on their driver page, but Marvell has 11.22.4.3.

This thread could be a lifesaver for me too.

Recently upgraded from Server 2003 x64 to Server 2008 x64 on an Intel DG965WH mainboard with integrated ICH8R SATA-RAID. I have one Raid-1 set with 500Gb Samsung Drives, and a four-drive Raid-5 set, also with 500gb Samsung drives.

Never had any problems with 2003, upgraded to 2008 and installed Matrix Storage Manager 8.9 (just grabbed the newest version of the net), and all of a sudden drives kept falling out of the arrays... At first I thought a just had a failing drive, but i've now reached the point that every single drive has failed at some point. Rebuilding takes a day, and then another drive will fall out...

Just "downgraded" to 8.8.0.1009. Will report back over the weekend.

    Thanks again for this thread

I went foward and installed IRST 9.5 yesterday. I had been running on IMSM 8.8 without issue since 10/29/2009, but more evidence is pointing to IRST 9.5 being the next version that's coming soon.

Since yesterday (24 hours), 9.5 has been running solid for my RAID 1. Quaint & slick new console GUI too (though has some visual goofs that should be fixed). I've been running multiple videos and slideshows simultaneously for several hours to put some activity on the hard drives. Also installed applications, data, ran defrags, and anything else I could think of to put some work on HDs. No hickups at all. In fact, 9.5 seems a bit peppier in HD performance.

It's only been 24 hours for me, but in the weeks since 9.5 was leaked, I haven't seen any postings citing problems. If I run into any issues, I'll post back here.

    INSTALL NOTES

    1)  Installed latest chipset driver for the board before latest BIOS and IRST install

    2)  Installed the latest 3878 BIOS before upgrading to IRST 9.5

    3)  IRST upgrades over IMSM 8.8 and leaves the drives intact. No reinstall of O/S required

    4)  Ran IRST Volume Verification & Repair after - Found 3 errors and repaired them (This is under Manage button > Advanced)

    SYSTEM:

    Motherboard: Intel DP55KG

    CPU: Intel Core i7 860

I recently installed Windows 7 on my system and installed the latest Intel Matrix Storage Manger from the web, 8.9.0.123. My RAID5 array had been running fine for a couple weeks, but just last night while I was working on it, so under moderate load, one of the drives dropped out. I restarted and readded the drive and started the rebuild and then another drive dropped out when it had only gotten partially through the rebuild. The first time it was port 1 and the second time was port 3, so a different drive. I restarted again and readded the drive and started the rebuild, this time it has gotten 15% through without a problem yet. I hope there weren't any errors that can't be resolved because of the fact that 2 different drives dropped out before the array could be completely rebuilt. I want to wait until it rebuilds completely and then I will upgrade to RST 9.5, since this seems to be working for most people. I'll report back how it goes. I've had a problem when I originally built the system about a year ago with the array becoming degraded and rebuilding itself, but I never had to readd the drives manually. Lately I hadn't been having problems while running Windows 7 RC. I believe the MSM version I was using was 8.7, but I can't say for sure. These are my system specs:

    GIGABYTE GA-EX58-UD5 Intel X58 Motherboard
    Intel Core i7-920 2.66GHz
    G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 12GB (6 x 2GB) DDR3 1600 (F3-12800CL8D-4GBRM)
    5x1.5TB RAID5 (Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 ST31500341AS)
    Palit XAE/48500+T352 Radeon HD 4850 512MB
    Windows 7 Ultimate x64

Ok, so it was not going to ever get through a rebuild successfully using MSM 8.9! It got about 20% through and then dropped the disk at port 4 (still a third disk different from the first 2). I was scared it might drop 2 disks at once and render my entire array useless without manually mounting the array and copying all the data off of it that way (which I've had to do before and it's a nightmare!). I rebooted, readded the disk and installed RST 9.5. It is now 16% through the rebuild and so far so good.

The array is rebuilt and running fine so far. It didn't find any errors in the rebuild process luckily. At least it didn't show that it found any and under the advanced portion of the array's management screen it says 0 under "verification errors found" and "blocks with media errors." So hopefully RST 9.5 continues to do the job without trouble.

I am interested in how long your system stays stable.  I also have the X58 chipset.  Have you loaded the latest chipset drivers?  I have been living with 8.8 since my problems with 8.9.  I just got the new Acronis backup utility which worked well in Vista x64, but now is locking the system in Windows 7. I am thinking that my storage driver is contributing to this problem.  Everyone in their forums are reporting Windows 7 problems.  I liked Acronis 2009 and Vista x64, it bailed me out when I was trying to diagnose the 8.9 problems, but now I am dealing with a collection of supposedly mismatched software.  Applications and RAID manager designed for Vista x64 and the Windows 7 releases not working in windows 7.  I find it rather humorous that across the board, the software developers hang their hat on the fact that the applications that work are technically not approved for Windows 7 and the ones approved for Windows 7, that users clear document don't work, can't be fixed.

I have a similar problem however with different circumstances. Windows 7 refuses to install for me, now. Unpacking system files or something of that such hangs at 4-6% and just sits there for hours. When I finally power the PC down and reboot in the raid bios it shows one of my drives has failed. I can delete the array and recreate and it's fine. Previously I managed to get Win7 64, 32, and Vista 32 installed. Each displayed a stutter. The computer would freeze up for a couple seconds at a time, the whole time my HDD LED full bore on(no blinking at all).

I really want to install windows using the ISM 9.5 drivers mentioned in the posts above, however it tells me the the driver is unsigned blah blah. I cant seem to load any driver, and I flat out can not install at this point.

I broke my array full tested both of my velociraptors with the WD util and got back a clean bill of health.

Im about to lose my mind.

Loading the 32 bit 9.5 driver at the install of Win7 32 allowed me to install Win 7 32 perfectly. No stutter, no drive failures from my array. With the 64 bit one being unsigned I still can not install Win7 64 bit.

    Works fine for me.

Like Peter, I installed it on my two systems on Wednesday with no issues (even with F6 driver install) on Windows 7 Ultimate x64.  The two systems have been running 24 hrs/day since Wednesday afternoon with no issues.  I have initializaed both volumes in the array and check for errors on Thursday and Saturday with none reported.

Hope GCA release is very soon.

    Have fun,

    Keith

How do I get the RST 9.5 driver?  It sounds like it is worth trying.
