        Alberto,

See my previous message on the status of this issue.  It took a while to do testing, and setting up Win7 for confirmation testing - so sorry for the delay in getting back to you.

I will be doing more testing but expect to mark this issue as closed sometime next week, subject to the constraint that the problem be reported to those writing the Intel Driver so they are aware that the latest release(s) have problems, which are not present in the September 4501 version.

The benchmark performance with 4501 is outstanding and substantially improved over the current driver release.

It might be that your tester was running with a different driver version, or different operating system - this may explain their inability to reproduce the problem.

        Regards

          Hello :

Thank you very much for sharing all this information on this thread.

Yes, of course I will transfer this information to the proper department so they can take your report under consideration.

I will be waiting for the results of those other tests that you are going to do, so I can transfer the complete report about this scenario.

Any questions, please let me know.

On Extended Battery Life for Gaming: I can confirm that disabling this option in the Intel HD Graphics Settings will correct the slowdown, HOWEVER the GPU will get slow again the next time the screen is blanked.  I can also confirm that changing other settings in the Intel HD Graphics Settings also will correct the slowdown, which again reappears when the screen is blanked.  I would guess that changing ANY setting in HD Graphics Settings and Applying the settings will also correct the slowdown.  The re-speed up of the GPU clock appears to be associated with updating any settings.

To be clear, this only applies to the new drivers after 45.01, correct?

On Intel HD Graphics Driver Versions: I have tested I think all versions of the driver after 4501 (September 12 2016).  They all exhibit the slowdown.  As a reminder, when the screen is blanked (as part of the power saving options under windows 10), the GPU will not raise its clock about the minimum 350 MHz, resulting in severe, approximately 3X performance degradation on GPU computations.  The slowdown is easily demonstrated with commercial benchmark programs such as PassMark, 3DMark, and SI Sandra.

In extended testing I have not seen a slowdown with driver 4501 - reports as 20.19.15.4501 in the windows device manager of date 8/11/16.  This version seems to be golden in that it yields excellent results and does not seem to have the problems of all future releases of the Intel HD Graphics Driver.

                More in the next message.

Yes, 4501 is great - great find.  4534, 3442, and 4552 all have problems.  The latest 4552 is a beta released last week by the way.  But I have more on this - wait till my next post.

More on the performance of Driver 4501: As a reminder all drivers after 4501 (after 9/11/16) have a problem with the GPU clock, where the clock remains at the minimum of 350 MHz after the screen is blanked due to power saving options, resulting in approximately a 3X performance degradation on GPU computations.  However before the screen is blanked versions 4501, 4534, 4542, and 4552 yield similar benchmark results with PassMark, 3DMark, and SI Sandra.

I have written my own benchmark - which is application domain specific - and which does extensive GPU computations, based on Microsoft's C++ AMP compiler - which effectively uses Direct Compute APIs.  My benchmark also demonstrates the same slowdown after the screen is blanked on drivers above 4501.  HOWEVER unlike the off the shelf benchmark, my application performance MATERIALLY BETTER on driver 4501, than on any subsequent driver even before they slow down due to screen blanking - performing repeatably about 25% to 30% faster with driver 4501.  So not only is there a severe speed degradation after the screen is blanked on subsequent drivers to 4501, but there is also an additional unknown change after 4501 which likely produces inferior performance for my application, and perhaps any Direct Compute based application.

I would like to call both of these issues to the attention to those at Intel that are involved in the Intel HD Driver releases: Two items need to be looked into:

                    A) Why do drivers above 4501 have a 3x degradation after the screen is blanked.

                    B) Why do drivers above 4501 have a 25% to 30% degradation likely on Direct Compute Applications.

PS: All testing done under Windows 10 with the latest BIOS and drivers (other than HD Graphics - which varied with testing) on a Skull Canyon NUC using dual channel DDR 4 memory (2 sticks) of the recommended speed grade 2100.

Knew I was having issues with video after resuming from monitor off.

I had settings set to "never sleep" and "turn monitor off" after 10 minutes.

My video into my 4k TV via HDMI was stuttering after resuming from "monitor off".

Reboot Skull and it was fine again.

Well at least it looks like they can fix this problem. Still waiting to see a fix for other issues.

We just released a new driver for 6th and 7th Gen Graphics that should be fixing this issue.

Please give this one a try:

-NEW- 15.45.14.4590: Intel® Graphics Driver for Windows® 7*/8.1*/10* [Vulkan Support]

Note: If you encounter any issues during the driver installation process, you can try the steps detailed here:

Manually Install an Intel® Graphics Driver in Windows® 10 and Windows...

                                  Regards,
