120. Re: Intel SSD 530 startup problems - Bug in SSD?
PKR Dec 8, 2013 12:02 PM (in response to niklas)I have the same problem - warm restart on my mac results in no startup disk found.
Macbook pro Mid 2010
Intel 530 240gb with DC12 firmware
I also think this ssd is slow - I am only getting about 200 mbps write and 260 mbps read speed. Very disappointed, as I the reviews online pointed to speeds in the range of 500 mbps.
I tried the installation two ways - one by cloning the system partition using carbon copy cloner, and another using a fresh install from super-drive and updating .. In both cases, speed didn't change.

marek.hajduczenia Dec 9, 2013 6:43 AM (in response to PKR)It seems like a SATA II limitation to me. I have tested 530 SSD on Sata II interface and got very similar speeds. Here is the speed chart for 530 SSD on Sata III interface (drive with OS on it)
For comparison, I am showing Crucial M4 512GB version on the very same interface (also with OS running on it):
They are quite comparable, and clearly Intel is a bit faster in write speeds. I will update later on, showing Intel 520 SD (180GB version) on the same machine.

123. Re: Intel SSD 530 startup problems - Bug in SSD?
Victor411 Dec 16, 2013 8:26 AM (in response to niklas)Has the same issue here when I put the Intel 530 240gb into my 2010 13inch MacBook Pro. Warm restart doesn't work but cold restart is fine. Another issue is after I successfully boot and log in the system (OS X 10.9), it cannot sleep (usually it will automatically sleep when I close the screen), could this be from the same cause?
Hopefully it will be fixed soon!

Entech Dec 16, 2013 9:40 PM (in response to niklas)We have purchased 6 of these SSD's for use in a Job here at work and all of them are experiencing this issue... Is there any more word on when we can expect a new firmware?

125. Re: Intel SSD 530 startup problems - Bug in SSD?
Newport-Geek Dec 17, 2013 8:48 AM (in response to niklas)I think I have the same problem. Last week I purchased a Intel 530 series 180 GB SSD to replace the operating system drive my Dell 780. The last few days I noticed two instances where the computer was frozen with a bios-like black screen stating that the boot drive was not recognized. I am not sure what event placed the computer in this state - windows update or whatever - but the computer was that way when I wanted into the room. I pressed the power button the computer restated and everything seemed to boot up correctly. I am very concerned about this problem. Should I replace the drive or is there a solid fix for this problem? I want to make a decision this week so I can return the drive without any hassles.

Neomanas Dec 17, 2013 1:19 PM (in response to niklas)Same issue with MacBook pro 7,1 13'' and Intel 530 SSD 120GB. Just bought SSD and if I do restart mac does not boot. If I turn off and turn on - everything looks fine. Also when mac going to sleep mode, SSD takes some time to turn off (takes some time to see indicator starts to blink) while OS going to sleep instantly. I bet it is related with the same issue.
Guys, how about the the fix? Is this still scheduled for the end of December? Or should I just return my SSD?

127. Re: Intel SSD 530 startup problems - Bug in SSD?
Kentz Dec 17, 2013 7:16 PM (in response to niklas)I just got the Intel SSD 530 240GB for my Toshiba Satellite U40t-A on Windows 8.1 Pro, and met with exactly the same issues as the rest of the poster here. I would need to restart my laptop several times into the BIOS to get the HDD detected before I could boot up, no issue at all with the default HDD. When it's not detected, the HDD section in the BIOS is blank, like the SSD never existed. With so many different config here facing the exact same issue, it should be clear to Intel that the problem lies in their SSD 530, not manufacturers' PC/Laptop.
Please come out with solution soon or I'll have to return this SSD to Amazon for Samsung 840 EVO, truly disappointed in my 1st SSD from Intel...
* Just saw the reply on page 6, leads me to wonder if your testing processes are thorough enough? For such a bug to happen in so many configs, do you guys have only 1 machine for testing the product before launching it into the market?

129. Re: Intel SSD 530 startup problems - Bug in SSD?
kuddo Dec 18, 2013 5:06 AM (in response to niklas)I've just purchased Intel SSD 530 (120Gb). I can't install windows 7/8 on this SSD. I have tried to install in both IDE and AHCI.
Windows installation just won't see my drive even though it shows up in the BIOS. I have tried on 2 mobos, a Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3 and a AsRock 970 Extreme3. Both mobos have the latest firmware, the ssd has the latest firmware. Also I have another 2 SSDs that work just fine. I can see the SSD in BIOS, but not in the windows installation.
I can see the SSD in windows, I can copy files on it. It shows that everything is fine in SMART but i just can't install windows on it.

130. Re: Intel SSD 530 startup problems - Bug in SSD?
michaelguok Dec 18, 2013 5:10 AM (in response to kuddo)Used it on a MacBook Pro 2010.
Reboot - not detected, has to force shut down.
Using it after startup is bad, runs like a 7200 RPM HDD, on my previous OCZ Vertex3 SSD, it takes 2.5" for a heavy weight app like Photoshop CS6 to start up (after reboot)
On the Intel 530, it takes >10s (this is after reboot).
It is extremely slow and it was a big letdown. I've since sold the drive off and replaced it with a Plextor M5 Pro instead. Now my operating speeds are back to normal and to what feels like SSD speed.
Hope Intel resolves this soon.

131. Re: Intel SSD 530 startup problems - Bug in SSD?
marek.hajduczenia Dec 18, 2013 5:10 AM (in response to kuddo)I guess at this time it is fair to say that many different systems are affected by this bug (not just HP as originally claimed) and there are different side effects of it. Some manage to boot their machines and have only problems when restarting (myself included), others have problems even installing anything on the drive.
I can only hope that Intel comes through on the promise and delivers firmware update on time. I do like the drive, its performance and design, but the firmware needs to be up to standards, as expected from Intel.
Also, given the volume of complaints here and in other places, I fail to believe it has been "thoroughly" tested. Multiple configurations have been reported as affected, so chances are the sample that was used for validation was not really representative

cad Dec 19, 2013 9:27 PM (in response to niklas)I have this issue on my new shuttle PC. It randomly decides to detect the drives (I have two of them).
I sure hope this is fixed by the end of the month before my return policy is up.
Funny thing is I picked these over the Samsung drives because I thought Intel would have the best compatibility but I guess I was wrong. Kind of regretting my decision now.
