Widi Application won't start

There is no error screen with details on what went wrong, the splash screen opens for a few seconds then disappears. The only evidence is an error in the application event log.

    Thanks for the post.

From what I am reading in the error message it would appear that the Intel® WiDi application is not seeing the TV adapter. Have you checked for any firmware updates from the TV Adapter maker? Also how is the TV adapter connected to the TV?

    Thanks,

I am experiencing the exact same problem with a Dell Latitude D6420 with Netgear PTV2000. The laptop is running Windows 7 Professional 32bit and has the latest Intel Wireless Drivers and Intel Graphics Drivers and Intel WiDi software. The splash screen pops up for a second and then vanishes into thin air and the only error is the one reported here in the event log.

Any assistance with this would be appreciated, we have purchased this WiDi device and laptop for a Theatre setup at our business and need to get it working ASAP.

    Thanks

2012-04-23  I'm having the same issues listed above...this is getting very frustrating!

I have listed my hardware\software below.

**EventViewer (Application Log) shows Event ID 1000, ***

Faulting application name: WiFiDnSServer.exe, version: 1.0.54.41, time stamp: 0x4f220e56

    Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Intel Corporation\WiDiAgent\WiFiDnSServer.exe

I don't on see a service, but I do see a process  for this in Task Manager.  I've tried manually starting the WiFiDnServer.exe under both my normal user and under my domain account, but neither seems to help C:\Program Files (x86)\Intel Corporation\Intel WiDi\WiDiApp.exe  get started...(?)

What should the registry entries here show?

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Intel Corporation\Intel WiDi

Should any of the installs be creating any additional services?  I dont see any new ones in service.msc (Service Management Console) or in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services

I don't see any log files or any files that can tell my why the application is not starting.

    I'm looking here C:\Program Files (x86)\Intel Corporation\Intel WiDi

    and here C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Intel Corporation\WiDiAgent

The following don't appear to help either:

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Intel Corporation\WiDiAgent\WiFiDnSServer.exe

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Intel Corporation\WiDiAgent\WiDiConnectTest64.exe

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Intel Corporation\WiDiAgent\serviceManagerIWD.exe

I have my Symantec AV turned off, When my normal user account didnt work I used SHIFT + right click on the app and choosing "Run as Administrator"  using my domain admin acct to start "C:\Program Files (x86)\Intel Corporation\Intel WiDi\WiDiApp.exe"

What do we need to do to get this app started?  Can anyone who has it running give us any info?

running devmgmt.msc (Device Manager) under System Devices I see "IWD Bus Enumerator" (which I'm guessing IWD is for Intel Wireless Display)

Please please please share any info you guys come across. I'm willing to troubleshoot things as well.

Interestingly enough, we have Symantec Endpoint AV as well here. I have tried uninstalling it and it has had no effect.

I've tried two different laptops now as well. Both have the latest Dell BIOS, WiFi adapter drivers, Display drivers (tried the older version from Dell's site and the latest version from Intel's site) and the latest WiDi version as well. Both have the same problem as reported in this thread.

Upgrading to WiFi Drivers v15.1.0 (which is not what http://www.intel.com/support/wireless/wtech/iwd/sb/CS-031109.htm points to) has fixed the problem for me (no more WiDi app crashes).

However, I cannot see the Netgear PTV2000 box (it cannot find any adapters). But that seems to be a seperate issue...?

Thanks Trafsta for joining in.  I'm guessing you are fairly familiar with working around pc\server?  Currently I have to make the decision of staying with the drivers downloads on the Toshiba website, or choose to load non-manufacture specific drivers off the Intel website.  Usually staying with manufacturer drivers is recommended.  I have a case opened with Intel and Netgear and will try to work with them first before switching over to the Intel driver.

Yes I've been in the I.T. field for 10+ years and working with computers for close to 20.

I have the netgear box working well now. It ended up requiring a laptop reboot and then boom it magically started seeing the Netgear PTV2000.

I'd give the full latest wifi driver install a try (filename Wireless_15.1.0_s32.exe or Wireless_15.1.0_s64.exe, NOT Wireless_15.1.0_Ds32.exe or Wireless_15.1.0_Ds64.exe). This has resoluved my problem. I am not too familiar with Toshiba but if they're like Dell they are always behind in versions for driver releases so I'd personally recommend going with Intel's latest drivers in this case.

    Paul,

I am having the same issue.  I am not sure I follow your reply.  Even if the device wasn't found, the WiDi application shouldn't fail shoud it?  I.e., shouldn't it stay up and say something like, "No Devices Found"?

In my case, I have installed all the drivers and programs suggested elsewhere in this thread:

    **INTEL ORDER IF WIDI INSTALL**:

    http://www.intel.com/support/wireless/wtech/iwd/sb/CS-031109.htm

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium on a Dell Inspiron N5110 with a Intel Core i5-2410M CPU @ 2.30 Ghz with 6 GB of RAM.

I have a NetGear Push2TV device, model PTV2000.  It is connected to the TV using the HDMI port.  I can see the startup screen on my TV which says launch Intel Wireless Display on your computer.

When I try to do this, I get the same error as the person in the original post in this thread.

Here is what appears in the Log Viewer:

Faulting application name: WiFiDnSServer.exe, version: 1.0.54.41, time stamp: 0x4f220e56

This issue is most likely related to data corruption. If uninstalling and reinstalling drivers in the correct order does not help the cause is related to the operating system itself.

Perhaps deleting the faulting application file after uninstalling (and before reinstalling) all related software may help…
