    eSata port multiplier support

    Christophe

      Hi,

I am new in this community and I am french, so please forgive mee if my english is not clear.

I would like to upgrade my computer and take advantage of new IvyBridge processors; my question is about motherboards : I am looking for a board alloing eSata connection for a dual drive dock.

How can I determine whether a motherboard support sSata port multiplier or not ?

I did not find any answer within the communities

Thanks in advance for your advices.

      Christophe

PS : sorry again if my topic is not at the right place

I, too, would like to know the answer to this. I'm trying to build a mini-itx rig with 8 sata internal, and 1 (or more) esata with port multiplier support, and can't find ANYTHING about the port multiplier support on these motherboards.

              Hi,

I  too am new in this community.

I recently built a computer based on parts from Intel:

                   motherbourd: DH77DF

CPU: Intel Core i7-3770s Ivy Bridge

                   Intel 180GB 520 Series SSD

                   8 GB RAM

                   ...

I also bought a Mediasonic Probox 4 bay storage device that i wanted to connect to my PC via USB3 or eSata. How can I determine whether my motherboard supports port multiplier?

I did not find any answer within the community.

              Thanks,

This is an Intel sponsored board.  Don't expect to find the information you're looking for here if it pertains to Intel chipsets.

If you're looking for documentation clarity and well-developed drivers...sorry, that's just not the way Intel rolls!

Snark aside, I'm fairly sure that you need to look to port multiplier support from a motherboard that has the Asmedia ASM1061 chipset.  Also, make sure that the motherboard BIOS also supports the port multiplier feature.  In most cases, this will be limited to 5 sata drives per the esata standard.

For reference, AMD's A75M supports port multiplier in it's tasty 6 Gbps esata form.
