DZ77BH-55K - Desktop Utilities does nothing in Windows 7 64-bit

    s1024b

      Hi,

I am using a 3570K on a DZ77BH-55K and when I launch Intel Desktop Utilities GUI in Windows 7 all I see is a spinnig progress indicator that never goes away. Anyone else faced a similar problem / found a solution for this?

      Edit:

I am running the program as admin (also tried in admin account but the problem persists) I have installed all the latest drivers and even the BIOS is up-to-date. The only thing that I have not installed in Integrator toolkit.

      Thanks,

      SKB

          Hi

I'm using the desktop utilities all okay on this board (Windows 7 64bit), this is version 3.2.2.046 of the application downloaded from Intels site.  You don't need the integrators kit as I've not installed that.

If you look in device manager do you have any unrecognised devices?

There does seem to be something funny with the BIOS update to the latest version, I had 100% fan running speeds until I did a reset to defaults in the classic mode of the BIOS setup. If you haven't already tried I'd recommend just loading the defaults in the BIOS and see if that enables the application.  (I'm assuming the application isn't starting as it's trying to query the motherboard for temps/fan speeds and isn't getting a response perhaps due to some odd settings left over after upgrading the BIOS.)

          Regards

          Phil

I dont see any unrecognised devices in the device manager. Even I imagined that it was waiting for some peripheral which is not responding, but couldn't figure out what it is.

I tried restroing default BIOS settings as per your suggestion, but it didn't help.

All my fans seemed to run at full speed all the time, so I set the Max PWM to 80 for the case fans and 95 for the CPU. Didn't know that this behaviour appeared in the latest version of the BIOS.

            Thanks,

I have exact same problem. Have upgraded to latest BIOS and video driver. Running in RAID1 mode. No PCI devices installed. Using i5-3550k processor.

I had the same problem but it's now working.

I just downloaded the file from the Intel website and and reinstalled it. And it's now working!!

Even I am not using any PCI slots. Thats common between us aprat from the processor. I did not find any option in the BIOS to disable PCI, otherwise we could have tried it.

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, I downloaded multiple times. Uninstalled, reinstalled. No luck.

Today I even went to the extreme of reinstalling windows 7 from scratch (new drives) and carefully adding all the latest drivers, rebooting between each, etc.

Still no luck. Desktop utilities just rotates a ball in a window forever. I've removed it until a newer version appears.

Same situation here. New build with DZ77BH-55K. Pretty standard and mainstream, with Win7 64-bit. Download and install of Intel Desktop Utilities yields that spinning circle at startup, and it never gets beyond that point, it just spins forever. Waiting for some resource? I'm not doing anything exotic. SATA is in RAID mode, and I'm using a Radeon 7750 card instead of the on-board graphics. All the Intel drivers are loaded, and the Device Manager shows no errors. Win7 is updated.

Other the the Desktop Utilities, the system runs fine, except for one glitch that's worth mentioning: When I updated BIOS to 0070, the system ran okay, but I could no longer boot into BIOS. Any attempt to boot to BIOS would restart; presumably it crashed in such a way that restarted. So I used the recovery jumper to install the previous BIOS, 0064, and now it works. Not sure what to make of that.

I don't suppose there's an alternate program to report the various thermal readings, which is what I'd particularly like to know?

I am having the same issue with a DH77EB board. There is no unrecognized devices in device manager, I relaoded the defaults in the BIOS and Uninstalled and re installed the latest version of the program. I did recently update to the latest version of the BIOS which is likely when the issues started.

Any Ideas to to further troubleshooting?

Same problem here and with a friend who bought this board as well.

Add another, same problem others are reporting.  DZ77BH-55K board in basic system, no add-in cards.  Fresh install of Win7-64, newest Intel BIOS and drivers, no unrecognized devices.  Tried loading defaults into BIOS and re-download+re-install of Intel Desktop Utilities (3.2.2.046a), but still just get spinning circle.

I see this question is marked "Assumed Answered" -- I hope that doesn't mean it's being ignored!

Same configuration here and the same result with Intel Desktop Utils. Only everlasting rounding circle with bios versions 57 and 70..

Thanks, it's good to know about that HWMonitor program for temperature reporting. It seems that some of the data is muddled, but it is aware of Z77 and reports what we need to know. I guess if I cared enough, I could customize it by upgrading from the freeware version to the paid one.

I don't think SpeedFan has been updated to read the Z77 sensors, but that will presumably be coming someday. When it happens, this may be the preferable utility. http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php

Who knows, maybe someday Intel will fix its Desktop Utility. Hey, Intel, are you reading this?

I had the same Intel Desktop Utility (IDU) problem with this motherboard, but I resolved it.

When I first got the mobo, I flashed it to the latest bios (0070), and everything seemed fine except my CPU fan was always running at 100% and IDU had the blue spinning wheel.  Repeated reinstalls of IDU didn't fix anything.  I never downgraded the BIOS, I simply performed the following steps:

                                  1) Boot into the BIOS and immediately go into Classic mode if not already there.  I think the Visual BIOS was introduced with 0070, so if you have an older BIOS you may already be in Classic mode (the DOS-like looking blue background screens).

                                  2) Load the BIOS defaults.

                                  3) Without rebooting, go to the fan control section and select the option to restore default fan options.

                                  4) At this point I believe I saved my changes but did not reboot.  I then proceeded to manually change every option as needed (e.g., turning on RAID support, disabling onboard video, etc.).

                                  5) Save and exit BIOS.  With any luck, everything should start working normally.  I could tell it worked because my CPU fan didn't speed up and IDU finally worked.

I should note that I had previously tried the Load BIOS Defaults option without also doing the fan control defaults, but it didn't work.  Only the steps above worked for me.

                                  Good luck!
