Intel DH77EB compatibility issue with PCIe x 1 TV Tuner card !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    playst

The Intel DH77EB which I just purchase cannot detect the Leadtek PxDVR3200H (PCIe x 1) TV tuner card which works perfectly fine on my previous Intel DP55WG. Can someone from Intel assist and issue a new bios update ???

      http://www.leadtek.com/eng/multimedia/overview.asp?pronameid=377&lineid=6&act=1

      My troubleshooting steps :

      - I try putting the TV tuner card into all the PCIe slot and all cannot work with the TV card (nothing was detected)

      - I had update to the latest EB0062.BIO

      - I put the XFI Titanium PCIe x 1 into the slot which the TV card cannot work to test and the sound card works instead.

      - I put the TV tuner card into Intel DP55WG and it works

It seems that many PCIe TV tuner card no longer works with your latest 7 series mother like those below kindly investigate :

I would have thought they'd be perfectly compatible so have you tried installing the card with a basic setup ie the only card installed on the motherboard and no unnecessary devices plugged into the PC? In my experience TV Tuner cards can suck alot of power through the PCIe slot so is your PSU up to spec with stable rail voltages?

When you say nothing is detected, does that mean NOTHING additional or untoward is showing up in Windows Device Manager (not even an unidentified device or exclamation mark etc)? Sometimes having lots of cards already installed on a PC will prevent additional ones from being detected hence my suggestion of going back to basics. It'd also be worth loading and saving BIOS default values before having another try.

I am 100% sure nothing is detected at all even in the bios for the PCIe TV Tuner card which is in perfect working condition. The power supply I use is FSP Aurum gold 500W. During the upgrade only the motherboard and CPU is changed the rest remains the same like the PSU etc thus the problem 100% lies with the motherboard.

Also I unplug everything including the power hungry GTX 560 Ti only left the TV Tuner card and I use the onboard graphics HD4000 also no use nothing is detected at all.

Assuming your PSU is working fine and all the rail voltages are stable (you could check this with Intel Desktop Utilities, preferably while the TV card is installed in the board and without a graphics card installed), there should still be enough power left over for the TV Card. It'd also be worth checking that all your PSUs additional feed cables (aside from just the ATX 24 pin one) are plugged into the motherboard fully where applicable. If this all checks out fine then you could try to load and save BIOS default values (to rule out any overclocking or non-standard settings as being responsible). Once you are certain everything about your setup is as plain as can be, if you still have no joy, it's time to get in touch with Intel Tech Support (and possibly your TV Card manufacturer) to see what's going on.

I am not the only person with PCIe compatibility issue. A few other people also encounter such problem with their Intel H77 motherboard.

I had already contacted the useless Intel technical support via live chat and that fella simply take the easy way out by pointing one of the PDF link of DH77EB specification and ask me to read. He also try to smoke me by saying rubbish like only PCIe 2.0 standard PCIe card can work. I think whoever reply this type of rubbish to me ought to be fired.

Upon searching the website, the official PCI website stated clearly all PCIe 2.0 is backward compatible with PCIe 1.1 and 1.0.

I fired at the Intel technical person on the live chat why the DP55WG motherboard can work with the TV Tuner card and he is stupid enough or should I rather say lazy enough to point me to the DP55WG PDF link specification and again ask me to read and repeat the same thing that it can work with PCIe 2.0 avoiding my question as to why it can work with DP55WG and DP55WG is not really donkey years old. It is only 2 generation behind DH77.

My case ID is 8000437144 perhaps Intel can do a trace and see our live chat history and get to know who is this fella who had replied such rubbish to me.

I have been using Intel motherboard for many years. Some of the series like Intel DG965, and the Intel DG33 series I had sold to my friend and I had thrown away the box and this are the boxes that remains. The same TV tuner can work with all this motherboard except this particular DH77EB.

I noticed other posts about the same sort of thing too and yes you are correct that backwards compatibility should occur with your board to meet your cards needs if required and you shouldn't be getting these problems. I'd get in touch with Tech Support again (preferably NOT via chat) and ask them to look into this and respond back to you. Note that although Intel techs sometimes chip in here, this is NOT an official support forum so asking Intel to do a trace here will likely not yeild any results. It'd also be worth contacting the TV card manufacturer as I'm sure they'll be interested in maximising the cards compatibility with new/current motherboards and two companies investigating the problem will be better than one! Good luck and let us know how your second attempt with Intel Tech Support (via the web form) goes. If a Media Series board cant be relied upon to run a 'within spec' TV Card successfully, I don't know what is and this should be very high on their priority list to address.

Some how I had a feeling the email support channel is also going to yield zero help as well.

Try it and report back here with the results - it's like voting in that you can't complain about the outcome unless you've made the full effort! All the points here (including your history of Intel board ownership and compatibility with them) will help to strengthen your case (although I'd try not to be to critical of the Chat support person).

The email support direct me to their useless Live Technical Chat .......

I suspect the phone support will also say the same thing, flash to latest bios, take out the battery for few hours, reset bios to default blah blah blah etc or try to direct me to read their whole wall of text PDF specification (if they fail to solve the problem this is what they will do, ask you to read their wall of text) and simply push all the problem to the TV card. They will go round and round falling short of admitting they is a real issue. It is like the bollywood dance where the problem go round and round.

I had own more then enough Intel motherboard to qualify myself to say that there is a real issue right here and hopefully the engineer direct from Intel can see this before it is being filter out by the Philippines phone operator.

So you need to have prepared in advance and be clear of your case. It also wouldn't hurt to have tried all of those 'usual' things anyway because sometimes with some problems, they do make a difference. If you've already tried them all then you can speed things up at getting through to the next level by telling the person. Sorry I have no experience with Intel tech support in the Philippines, only here in England but persevere!

The fastest way to restore detection is usually inserting a different device to restore detection.  A different TV card would be best to try.  This can be required even with a clean install.

The (ambitious) remote or sound card installation may have confused the system depending on the order of installation.  Your card doesn't appear to be available here in the U.S.

The bios cannot detect the TV tuner thus reformating the whole PC will have no effect.

That should be correct.  It seems that you had a sound card installed when you tried to install the TV card and did not attempt to install that driver.  To move the sound card it would be best to uninstall the sound card, then remove it, replace it then install again.  I went through a similar problem with a slot that eventually fixed itself after I was able to get an otherwise functional system using other slots.  To really see what is occuring it would be a good idea to check the registry to make sure you don't have duplicate devices listed.  There is an interaction with the BIOS when booting of the OS so any registry conflicts will make correction difficult.

Thanks for your help but it is not about the driver's issue.
