1. Re: How do you optimize(garbage collection) SSD's when used in a RAID (0) configuration?
Xeneize Dec 6, 2011 6:16 PM (in response to DANY)Welcome!
Long story short, GC works when the PC is in idle mode, so try not to shut down your PC after long hours of deleting/moving files. I have a pair of 510 series in RAID 0 and I've seen the transfer rates go from 990MB/s to 720MB/s, after a couple of nights on and in idle state, the speed was completely recovered.
Also keep in mind that Intel is most likely releasing a TRIM support for RAID 0 in RST 11.5.

DANY Dec 6, 2011 8:03 PM (in response to Xeneize)Well thank you Xeneize for the fast response to my question. If it is permissible to ask a few related questions they are as follows:
* Your answer prompted me to check my power settings (wondering if I changed them when I went to an SSD a few years ago) and I checked shutoff hard drive after 20 min, sleep after 30 min, allow hybrid sleep> ON, hybernate after 840 min{for out of town trips}. These were intended to save the life of my previous Raptor hard drive. Looks like I should be changing these and prolong hard drive off and sleep times. Any suggestions for duration?
*Will the enhansed TRIM program you reference be a separate release by INtel (how does one get a "RST"), will it be incoporated into an update to the Intel toolbox, and will it be released as an update to win 7. I did just update my INtel Toolbox when checking my new 520 purchase. Just in case you have some thoughts on these issues as well.
I did check that you gave me a correct answer, thanks
Thanks in advance for your efforts and help,
Best regards,
DANY

3. Re: How do you optimize(garbage collection) SSD's when used in a RAID (0) configuration?
Xeneize Dec 6, 2011 11:18 PM (in response to DANY)No problem friend.
You should for sure disable Hybernation if you are using SSD, it's a best practice, in fact here's a great guide to help you optimize your SSD:
http://thessdreview.com/ssd-guides/optimization-guides/the-ssd-optimization-guide-2/
As far as Intel Rapid Storage diver to support TRIM, it will be their next release of the software/driver, most likely will be included with the Intel Toolbox, here's a good source:

Enjoy!
