sogersortep Aug 21, 2011 3:45 PM (in response to AlexAlexAlex)Don't you know, DOS will never die, in this case it must be some old **** at intel who still uses floppies and 5 1/4 drives romancing the good ol' days where 12M drives were the size of a printer.
Don't know why he is still on the payroll...

w00thisButtonDo Aug 22, 2011 8:10 AM (in response to afrosty)Maybe it's good idea to secure erase drive before flashing (I recommend to do it twice) to prevent triggering 8MB bug, after new firmware installed.
I think Intel has reproduced the bug and has released new firmware, but if you want to flash the bricked drive you need to restore it to operational state and there is only one way - secure erase. I am sure that intel has done it on their "reproduced bug - drives".

DutchDelight Aug 22, 2011 10:08 AM (in response to afrosty)Hi All,
Get a new 320 120 Gb SSD (not installed yet) and flashed it succesfully with the new FW.
This week i'm getting my new laptop (Elitebook 8740w) for my work, so i'm preparing for installation, which take me lots of time to finetune it etcetera. Of course i will keep OS and Data seperated (2nd drive).
Now i've read some new problems after the new FW-release. I'm curious -> Is it still advisable to use this SSD?
I think for myself i install (basic) anyway and test it for a couple of weeks, see if any problems arise.
Regards
Eric

L10090 Aug 22, 2011 2:48 PM (in response to DutchDelight)What is advisable nowaday's.....
Last saturday I finished the installation of a factory new 80GB 320 SSD in my new Lenovo X210i notebook. (had it on the shelf for 4 weeks waiting for the new firmware to arrive)
1. First applied the new firmware on the new unformatted SDD, out of the box.
2. Placed the unformatted SDD in my X201i notebook and reinstalled the factory supplied W7-32bit SW + Lenovo SW.
3. Applied all the W7 maintenance including SP1 + follow on.
4. Applied all the Lenove Driver/tools maintenance.
5. Installed all my user sw products + their data.
All together 10 hours intensive SW installation work. Notebook is now in production for 2 day's and no problems so far.
So I took the jump and now I keep my fingers crossed combined with a recent backup on a switchable 2.5" hdd!

Desiderius Aug 24, 2011 1:48 AM (in response to afrosty)I update my 64x 320er Series 160GB SSDs. First 8 pieces are stress testing now for 2 days in Raid10 ( Adaptec 5805 ) with bonnie++. Also i plug out the power cord while stress testing to simulate an power failure. But no one of the 8 SSDs have the 8MB failure. With the old firmware after 2h stress testing with bonnie++ the first SSDs getting broken. For us it seems that the firmware update had solve our problem. I think its to early to say everything its okay, but it looks good.

Cloggie97 Aug 24, 2011 3:02 PM (in response to afrosty)I don't have an optical drive to burn this iso to and then to install the firmware update from. Could you give instructions how to write the iso to a usb flash drive and make it bootable please? I managed to do this with the Windows 7 installation media and make a bootable usb flash drive for it using Microsoft's USB/DVD Download Tool and thus install Windows 7 on my pc, so surely it must be possible to write this iso to a usb flash drive and make it bootable and install the firmware update from it. I have googled but cannot easily find how to write this iso to a usb flash drive and make it bootable.

Mega Aug 26, 2011 7:49 AM (in response to magr01ino)Umm.. Slow down right there. I had a 320 300GB drive that I had been using for a couple of months. Made a backup and then updated the firmware over the weekend. Yesterday while I was working the system freezed completely powered it off and booted up and was greeted to a no operating system found message. Extracted the drive and confirm that I know have the dread 8MB bug AFTER applying the firmware fix. Not a happy camper right now and I have a few more of these things. Now I am thinking that I never should have applied the update.

AlexAlexAlex Aug 26, 2011 11:41 PM (in response to afrosty)Dear Corporation, how long do we have to wait this time? 6 months, 5 years? How can I get my money back for 3 SSD I can't use (two of them with 8Mb bug, recovered) 3 months already? I believe seller won't take it back easily, as they "working" now. Your support is silent as lambs. Will you provide any memo that you refund money to distributors in this particular case? I have great plans on intel SSDs, but your "get lost" reaction ruined it, not bug itself (bug happens).

sogersortep Aug 27, 2011 12:12 AM (in response to AlexAlexAlex)Wrong approach, courthouse language is the ONLY language corporations like intel understand, otherwise you're wasting your time.

thorel Aug 27, 2011 6:04 PM (in response to afrosty)Help! I'm trying to apply the update, but the ISO won't boot correctly, it's buggy. I'm getting the following message:
----- begin excerpt -----
InitDiskCONFIG.SYS error in line 0
>>>SSHELL=A:\command.com /P
^
bad or missing Command Interpreter: A:\command.com /P
Enter the full shell command line:
------ end excerpt ------
I've tried a variety of entries, nothing worked so far. I tried unpacking the .exe in the disk, can't seem to do that either.
Any suggestions?

w00thisButtonDo Aug 28, 2011 1:09 AM (in response to thorel)Are you sure that it's iso buggy, not your dvd/cd/whatever drive or media, etc?
Check the md5 for 0811036202M388208850.ISO
md5=b5f040185e899c48042569a35e62a101
if your OS is windows,
You can use http://www.winmd5.com/ to check md5 and ImgBurn to make bootable disc from iso - http://www.imgburn.com/.
