Try to clear CMOS. Turn the system off and unplug the power cable, take the CMOS battery out of the board and wait 5 minutes and put it back in the same position , that way you can clear the settings on the BIOS to the defaults again. After that boot to the BIOS and set the correct time and date, then go to boot section and look for “boot to network” and disable it, then give it a try. Also check the boot sequence: 1st the CD/DVD drive, 2ndhard drive.

I understood, but after reading other posts I decided to do a simple test with the memories. At first I installed only one and then only the another and so I installed the two together, however, in different slots than they were before. Then I noticed that the problem occurs only when using the two memories at the same time, regardless of position. With only one memory everything works fine.
Any idea better than to downgrade the BIOS?
It sounds like you may have several issues going on with this setup. Is your power supply unit (PSU) powerful enough to cope with all that's in your PC (especially if that's a high end graphics card you've plugged in)? Is the graphics card getting power through any additional sockets it may have on it (some cards need a feed from the PSU directly as well as what they get through the PCIe slot).
When you plugged in the new graphics card, you did take precautions against ESD such as (at least) grounding yourselft before touching the computers internals/the hardware you were installing, didn't you? ESD (a form of damage from static electricity) can cause all sorts of problems with PCs including damaging memory so it's important to be warey of this.
If you suspect that a memory module may be damaged you could download and run a memory testing utility to weed out such possible problems if each one works OK on it's own though, I suspect a power related issue.

I have exactly the same issue on 3 machines with this motherboard. I have no graphics card installed but I also have 2 x 4Gig RAM moduled installed. The BIOS is EXTREMELY slow and I use these machines with Microsoft Multipoint Server 2011. All the workstations connected to these machines also have extremely slow video response. As soon as I remove one of the memory modules, the machines works perfectly... add another memory module and it all comes to a halt.
Have you come up with a solution yet by any chance?

I use my PC for personal use. I replaced my 2x2GB DDR2 for DDR3 2X4 because it was a good deal. I do not need 2x4GB DDR3. I only use 1x4Gb effectively. So I chose to use only 1x4Gb.
This was a partial solution. I was afraid of trying the BIOS upgrades and downgrades.
My English is not very helpful, as you probably certainly have noticed.
But if this can help, I remember not having experienced the problem using the BIOS v07.
In this version, the problem presented was the malfunction when using the graphics card. Without the graphic card I do not remember having problems with the memories. However, I did not use the PC normally. When I was finishing installing all the hardware and software, the last piece was the graphics card. Then the problem occurred. So I stopped the whole process and tried to solve the problem.

Thank you for the reply EDU2R. It really looks like this motherboard has a serious problem with memory. I downgraded the BIOS to version 10 and still have the problem, but it helps knowing about version 07. I am going to try loading that version of the BIOS today and hope for the best.
I just can't understand why there are not more people with this problem and I wonder if it is a faulty batch of motherboards. I am taking the PCs back to the seller tomorrow to see if they will swop out the motherboards or even just test with different boards.
Indeed the tech specs for that board downloadable here: http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/dg41wv/sb/CS-031417.htm only shows support for up to 4 GB. I wonder why I (nor Intel or anyone else here posting here) thought to check that until you spotted it (unless this has changed since the board was released - in which case those expecting to use over 4 GB if it was advertised originally as supporting this, should contact their seller and complain) - well found hhelmbold!
