Use Case Reference Designs for Intel vPro Technology

Purpose: Provide step-by-step procedures for implementing specific use cases highlighting Intel® vPro™ Technology.

 

Use case reference designs provide IT professionals with detailed step by step instructions for solving real problems in their environments by leveraging Intel vPro technology.  The list of use cases below will be expanded over time to include additional use cases, including use cases that apply to other ISV consoles.

Emergency Fix for McAfee* .DAT file using Intel® vPro™ Technology

 

Emergency Fix
This use case provides a remedy utilizing Intel vPro technology to address the effects of the McAfee .DAT on Windows* XP systems.

Use Intel® vPro™ Technology to reboot affected clients to a remote ISO file and automatically repair system files affected by McAfee .DAT file.

Remotely configure Intel® vPro™ technology based systems (Intel® AMT 7.0 and above) in-band using Intel® SCS 7 and Microsoft* System Center Configuration Manager.

Help Desk
These use cases deal with help desk scenarios involving Intel® vPro™ technology.

Remotely erase a managed client’s hard disk drive with Intel vPro technology.

DOS can work well to troubleshoot and repair PCs. But when it comes to repairing the Windows registry or backing up user data it is limited. This reference design shows how Windows* PE, RealVNC's VNC* Server, and Intel® vPro™ technology can be used to overcome these limitations allowing you to fix more problems remotely and reduce desk side visits.

Starting with Windows* Vista, Microsoft* has included a bootable recovery environment called Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) with their Windows operating systems. When a PC won’t boot or Windows needs in- depth repairs, WinRE can be used to correct the situation. Coupled with Intel® Active Management Technology (Intel® AMT), these tasks can be performed remotely. This document outlines creating a WinRE .iso image for remote use with Intel® vPro™ technology. It also covers the basics of remote boot and access to WinRE.

Small Business
These use cases deal with scenarios involving Intel® vPro™ technology in a small business environment.

With the release of Intel® Active Management Technology (Intel® AMT) 4, Intel® vPro™ technology added the capability to set up and configure PCs with Intel vPro technology locally using a USB flash drive.  For small and medium businesses that prefer local setup and configuration, this can speed up the setup and configuration process. This use case will demonstrate a simplification of this process.
