Signal Fish Tutorial: Range finder

    In order for our Signal Fish to not fly into any obstacles, we wanted to add distance sensors to detect an object in the way of its path. To trigger the sensor at the right distance, we used about 1.5 meters, relative to the location of the sensor. All 3 sensors need to be the same distance because otherwise when we turn our fish, the nose could hit a wall if the sides detect at shorter distances.

     

    As with the rest of the pieces on our rig, we wanted the enclosure for the sensors to be swappable if something needed to be moved around. Each distance sensor was encased inside the same structure, as pictured here:
