    Tutorial for installation Debian System on Intel Galileo

    This System was adapted from this --> Build debian Linux distribution for Galileo board with debootstrap

    From Thomas_Faust_(Intel)

    1 – Preparing System

        root@debian:/      apt-get install debootstrap

        root@debian:/      mkdir galileo-debian

        root@debian:/      cd galileo-debian

        root@debian:/      mkdir mnt-loop

        root@debian:/      mkdir image


      2 - Create Filesystem for new Debian Image


        root@debian:/      dd if=/dev/zero of=loopback.img bs=1G count=1

        root@debian:/      mkfs.ext3 loopback.img

              Message is displayed, only Comfirme

              loopback.img is not a block special device.

                  Proceed anyway? (y,n) y



    3 – Mount Images

        Download the original image http://downloadmirror.intel.com/24000/eng/LINUX_IMAGE_FOR_SD_Intel_Galileo_v1.0.2.zip

          Unzip image-full-galileo-clanton.ext3 in

        root@debian:/      mount -o loop loopback.img ./mnt-loop

        root@debian:/      debootstrap --arch i386 wheezy ./mnt-loop

        root@debian:/      mount –o loop image-full-galileo-clanton.ext3 image


    4 – Copy necessary Files


        root@debian:/      cp -ru image/lib/ mnt-loop/

        root@debian:/      cp -ru image/usr/lib/libstdc++.so* mnt-loop/usr/lib

        root@debian:/      cp -ru image/lib/libc.so.0 mnt-loop/usr/lib

        root@debian:/      cp -ru image/lib/libm.so.0 mnt-loop/usr/lib

              To Fix the bug in the python Installation     -> mentioned by gravspeed thank you again
        root@debian:/      cp image/usr/bin/killall mnt-loop/usr/bin/

        root@debian:/      cp image/etc/inittab mnt-loop/etc/inittab

        root@debian:/      cp image/etc/modules-load.quark/galileo.conf mnt-loop/etc/modules

        root@debian:/      cp -r image/opt/ mnt-loop/

        root@debian:/      cp image/etc/init.d/galileod.sh mnt-loop/etc/init.d/

        root@debian:/      cp image/etc/init.d/quark-init.sh mnt-loop/etc/init.d/


    5 – Configuring new System


        root@debian:/      mount -t proc proc mnt-loop/proc

        root@debian:/      mount -t sysfs sysfs mnt-loop/sys

        root@debian:/      chroot mnt-loop /bin/bash


        root@debian:/      echo "Galileo" > /etc/hostname


          Configuring Network (Configurando a rede)

          root@debian:/      nano /etc/network/interfaces

              auto eth0

              iface eth0 inet dhcp


        root@debian:/      apt-get install ssh

        root@debian:/      passwd

              Set new Password

        root@debian:/      mkdir /media/realroot

        root@debian:/      mkdir /sketch

        root@debian:/    update-rc.d galileod.sh start

              if cannot upload sketch try this     

                  root@debian:/      cp /opt/cln/galileo/launcher.sh /etc/init.d/

                  root@debian:/      update-rc.d launcher.sh defaults


    6 – Implementations

    if you want you can install Packages like Mysql and Tomcat

        root@debian:/      apt-get install mysql-server mysql-client tomcat7


    7 – Leaving

        root@debian:/      exit

        root@debian:/      umount mnt-loop/proc

        root@debian:/      umount mnt-loop/sys

        root@debian:/      umount image

        root@debian:/      umount mnt-loop

      8 – Copy to SDCARD

        cp loopback.img /path/image-full-galileo-clanton.ext3

    Boot files must be on sd card

              mkdir /mnt/usb - mount /dev/sdb1 /mnt/usb - use /mnt/usb in place of path
