8th Generation Intel® Core™ Desktop Processors continue to use LGA1151 socket; however they require motherboards based on the new Intel® 300 Series chipset (for example, Intel® Z370 Chipset). These processors are not backward compatible with motherboards based on Intel® 200 Series Chipset and Intel® 100 Series Chipset.
Similarly, 7th and 6th Generation Intel® Core™ Desktop Processors are not compatible with the new Intel® 300 Series chipset (for example, Intel® Z370 Chipset) motherboards.
8th Generation Intel® Core™ Desktop Processors are: i7-8700K, i7-8700, i5-8600K, i5-8400, i3-8350K and i3-8100
Intel® 300 Series chipset is Intel® Z370 Chipset.
