This week at Citrix Synergy I previewed Intel’s first ever server hosted client solution on an up and coming Intel® Xeon® processor E3-1200 product family (code named Crystal Well). This processor will incorporate our most advanced graphics solution, the Intel® Iris™ Pro graphics. This technology will support rich remote workloads like CAD, 3D rendering, video editing and other complex workflows and will help OEMs to design and distribute extremely dense and energy efficient solutions for the data center, and is expected to be available later this year.
Also, while at the Citrix Synergy conference, I disclosed new and advanced graphics virtualization technologies derived from our close collaboration with Citrix. These technologies enable users with the flexibility of working from any device, anywhere, anytime, with any data. It also helps IT protect enterprise data and company IP in a cost effective and scalable manner, while concurrently delivering improved user experiences to the mobile users. What makes this possible is Intel® Graphics Virtualization Technology™ (Intel GVT). Intel GVT is a portfolio of technologies that address a large variety of graphics usages, including but not limited to: Workstation Remoting, VDI, DaaS, Transcode, Media streaming, and On-line gaming, etc. For now, Intel GVT umbrella covers three distinct flavors of graphics virtualization approaches: Intel GVT-d, Intel GVT-s and Intel GVT-g (additional flavors can be expected in future).
Here is my take on the news. Advancements like these will help our customers be productive anytime, anywhere on devices that can help them collaborate faster and “get it done”. By “getting it done” I mean our customers will now have the opportunity to extend their ability to share a complex and professional experiences beyond where the data was created and transformed by simulation and design to where decision making needs to be, … in the board room, with a partner, or, … even executives!
