That happens if the mini-DIMM isn't the correct one.  Which one did you buy?

Re: S5000 VSA Board RAID 5 Activation Key Problem

Hello,

Assuming that you are using the Onboard Raid Controller with the Activation Key AXXRAKSW5 AND the board has the onboard SAS controller (S5000VSASAS/R - 4 blue sas ports)

Well, the first thing that i would try is to:
- Reflash the Oprom firmware for the SAS controller.

Download this utility:
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/download.aspx?url=/17968/eng/SAS_FW_v.2009.06.26_ph16p3.zip&DwnldId=17968&lang=eng

1. Extract the whole contents and send it to a FAT formatted USB stick. Plug the usb stick onto the target machine.

. Boot to the EFI shell
    - Press 'F2'  during POSt to enter BIOS Setup
    - Select Boot Manager -> EFI Shell

3. Change drive and directory location to where you unzipped the package by typing the following commands:
    fs0: <press Enter>
cd <SAS FW directory name which is "SAS_FW_v.2009.06.26_ph16p3">

4. Type in the name of the batch file that matches your board model and press <Enter>:
    sasasupd.nsh      S5000VSASAS

5. Reboot and confirm the OpROM/FW versions (depending on mode) and drives listed.

Go into the Bios
Check:
Mass Storage Controller COnfiguration
SAS Controller Enabled.
Configure SAS as SW RAID: Enabled
Activation Key: Enabled

If it still does not show up, get another activation key AXXRAKSW5. Or try to flash the firmware again without the activation key, check if it makes any difference.

Note: Update the Oprom firmware ONLY if you have the SAS version, otherwise for SATA boards, it is not needed.
Mini-dimm is for ROMB card and Midplane. As far as i know, PSL uses the ROMB card and PAL uses the midplane. So you wont need to worry about the mini-dimm, unless you are using some unvalidated products. :-)

All the best,

Kind Regards,
Aryan.

Re: S5000 VSA Board RAID 5 Activation Key Problem

Hello,

So i assume that you have got the board SAS version.

Try this previous firmware

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=17237&ProdId=2487&lang=eng

The command will be:

sasasupd.nsh

Otherwise, may be Dan_O can help us.

Kind Regards,

Aryan.

Re: S5000 VSA Board RAID 5 Activation Key Problem

I'm kind having this same problem but with a different board, i'm using S5000VSA SATA R, the same procedure can be used to make my board works ? I'm trying to create a RAID 5 using 5 1Tb HD.

PS: Sorry about my very bad english.

Re: S5000 VSA Board RAID 5 Activation Key Problem

Hello,

Unfortunately, the Oprom update is only for SAS boards and SAS controller.

Can you tell me which problems are having?

Can you see the activation key detected during post?

Is it enabled in the bios?

Can you create a RAID5 for a smaller volume like total capacity < 2TB? Have you tried that?

Try to do a CMOS clear and update all the board firmware to the latest version (bios, bmc, sdr)

Have you tried another activation key?

Let us know these answers so that we can assist further.

All the best,

Kind Regards,

Aryan.

Re: S5000 VSA Board RAID 5 Activation Key Problem

Aryan,

I solved the problem last night, when o got into the controller setup i could not find the option to mount all the 1tb Hds in a RADI 5 configuration, the only option avaiable on screen was RAID 0, even so it was not what i want to do i tried and in the next screen the RAID 5 option were avaiable.

Thanks for the help.
