Re: dp45sg Motherboard spontaneously reboot, and windows freezes

I have tried everything that i could to see if it was really a MB related problem, it SEEM to be.

My computer freezes, BSOD then restart, w. random error message... It is also double booting.

I made a few test on different operating system to see if it was an issue with my win7 RC. After negative result on Win XP, Debian and Win7 i decided to see if it was related to my memory so i tested it using memtest (full test) and everything was okay. I remove one stick of RAM, changed the 2 ram dimm position, took a look in the BIOS for voltage / timming etc... everything was okay. Upgraded the BIOS to the latest version, changed the video card, took a look at the temperature sensor.

I'm on my second DP45SG and i'm very unsatisfied w. this product. The consumer service is not very helpful, i wouldn't recommend any MB from Intel to anyone. My first spoken language is French, and the north american call center only have English representative, since i don't have a warranty from a computer manufacturer (custom build computer) how i am supposed to get in touch w. someone qualified to heard my request of having a different model as a replacement MB ? (They can't escalate your call from the intel chat, apperently).

As i am aware now, something is clearly wrong w. this motherboard. If anyone is interrested my config is :

-Corsair TX650 PSU

-Corsair XMS3 DHX TW3X4G1333C9DHX

-C2D E8500 @ 3.16GHZ

-ATI 4870 512MB

..

------------------------

My first DP45SG problem was : http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=593258

Unable to clear the CMOS ? Yes....

------------------------

I would like to be contacted by a Intel representative, if possible (via email /chat).

Thanks.

Re: dp45sg Motherboard spontaneously reboot, and windows freezes

You might check the VDIMM requirements of the memory installed if the problem is not with the PSU or is not a heat related issue. The board may be a bit flaky if the memory requires 1.7 or 1.8V but was set to auto (which most probably defaults to 1.5V).

Re: dp45sg Motherboard spontaneously reboot, and windows freezes

Hello everyone: I´m another "customer" who is suffering this kind of "motherboard". Today Intel contacted me saying that, after leaving the pc on the bios screen for 2 hours without rebooting, it "must be" a hardware compatibility problem

The funny thing is once Windows Vista x64 starts, the system hangs or reboot automatically, but while in the bios screen doesn´t. Thats the answer to all our problems: we do not have a compatible component in our system (but Intel doesn´t know which is it). In other words, we all do no have any idea to build a complete Pc.

As for me, it is the last time I buy a Intel motherboard, especially after such a response for such a "company"

Great INTEL, keep treating like this your customers!

My System:

Dp45sg

8 Gb Kingston memory 1333

Chieftec Case

Core2Duo E8500

500 GB Seagate (x2)

Zotac Gts250

Re: dp45sg Motherboard spontaneously reboot, and windows freezes

Hello friends

I have purchased 3 systems with the DP45SG motherboard in the month of march 2009. Still now I can't find a solution for this problem (windows randomly freezes or reboots). I even replaced all the 3 motherboards, but still no use. The problem continues. If someone can figure out the problem, please help me.

My system configuration

Motherboard: Intel DP45SG

Cpu: Core2Quad Q9550

Memory: 4Nos of 2GB Transcend DDR3 1333 MHz

Video: Zotac 9500GT 1GB 128Bit DDR2

Harddrive : 1 TB Seagate HDD

PSU: Zebronics 400Watt

The bios and all the drivers are up to date.

OS : Tried with all latest windows OS (Windows XP 64bit, Vista Ultimate, Business 32 Bit/64 Bit, Windows 7 Ultimate 32/64bit)

It will be helpfull, if someone can give a solution.

thanks,

Senthilkumar

Re: dp45sg Motherboard spontaneously reboot, and windows freezes

I am SOOOO glad to see these message, my system has been throwing me fits.

I built two system, both are identical, except one motherboard is the 402 revision and the other is the 404 revision.

The 420 revision reboots constantly. The 404 version loses time when it comes out of a sleep mode.

Both systems are DP45SG, Q9650, 8Gig of 1333, Raptor 10,000 RPM Drive, ATI 4890 1 Gig

If there was another full form ATX board, I think I'd buy it, but based on what everybody else is seeing I am thinking of changing board and CPU families.

Re: dp45sg Motherboard spontaneously reboot, and windows freezes

I basically had the same problems. The only solution was to use DDR3-1066 RAM. Remember that the P45 chipset does not officially support DDR3-1333 (see specs on Intel website), only up to DDR3-1066. Especially with more than 2 modules installed, you'll be asking for trouble. Underclocking the 1333 RAM to 1066 didn't work for me, I just got an endless reboot loop. At the price of this MB, I really don't think Intel is hand-picking selected P45 chips that support a 1333 FSB.

Re: dp45sg Motherboard spontaneously reboot, and windows freezes

Hi Rye,

Thanks for all your help. I have my computer running now with the dp45sg. So far everything seems to be running great. What I did was format the hard drive again after doing a bios update on the MB. Then I reinstalled windows XP PRO SP2. Then before installing any other drivers I installed drivers that shipped with the MB including the chipset. Then I installed the driver updates from the intel website. Note that I really felt that I should not allow the installation programs to reboot the computer because that is when most problems seemed to start before, most would probably say this was nonsense, but it worked for me. After the updates I installed the drivers for the video card and the updates for that. After this I began installing my software and any updates. (still manually rebooting). I'm still running the exact configuration I mentioned before. The only thing I changed was that I upped the voltage on my RAM from 1.5 to 1.6.

So far, So good!

Re: dp45sg Motherboard spontaneously reboot, and windows freezes

Hi,

I would like to just add my two cents.

I have played around with this board for a bit, with various configs and i have had a bit of everyhting in terms of issues and problems with. But did mange to resolve them. I think the main thing with this board is that it is very "delicate" or " moody" i suppose. If you do have 8gbs of RAM i really dont think you are going to get it stable at 1333. I found with2 modules dual channel i could get them stable for 1333, but not for it HAD to be 1066. Althogh ot DOES say on the intel website that 1333 is supported:

Memory

  • Four 240-pin  DDR3 SDRAM Dual Inline Memory Module (DIMM) sockets
  • Support for DDR3 1333/1066/800 MHz DIMMs
  • Support for up to 8 GBΣ of system memory

I think for you guys out tehre still having issues, you need to play around a lot with differents configs and settings in the bios specially the memory!!!

Good luck

Re: dp45sg Motherboard spontaneously reboot, and windows freezes

You know, Intel is so large that if all of us quit buying anything with their name on it it would not make a difference.

It's obvious that they don't care either. Have you seen anywhere on this thread that has been going for months now, any reply from INTEL that makes you believe they feel any differently?

I've been building systems for years (since the "286" processor) and this is my first negative words about Intel, but unless they step up to the plate and address the concerns on this thread, it won't be my last.

Thanks for hearing me out.

Re: dp45sg Motherboard spontaneously reboot, and windows freezes

I have the DP45SG rev 402 and the DP45SG rev 404. My 402 rev board was rebooting within 4 hours (somtimes 4 minutes) of running everytime. I read someplace about changing the memory voltage so I set mine to 1.75volts and the problem went away immediately. I ran it under load for an entire day without any issue-that was unimaginable before the change. I contacted Intel to make sure that was not a problem and they sent me to this page and said it was fine:

http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/dp45sg/sb/CS-029151.htm

My 404 rev board was losing and gaining time when it would come out of sleep mode, I ran it at 1.75volts but it was running sluggishly, so I dropped it to 1.55volts and it runs great now. If it runs fine all weekend I am closing my open case. If it does not, they said to RMA the 404 board.

So, if you are running the Elpida J1108BABG-DJ-E chips like I am (Mine came from Kingston), then maybe you need to heat them up a little bit also.

Good Luck...
