"K" unlocked CPUs in an H77 motherboard

I can't seem to get a straight answer to this question, so I thought I'd ask on the intel forums to put it to bed once and for all.

On the H77 chipset specification, it says "Supports the 3rd generation Intel® Core™ processors with Turbo Boost Technology 2.0 Intel® Pentium® processor, and Intel® Celeron® processor. Intel H77 Express Chipset also enables overclocking features of unlocked 3rd generation Intel® Core™ processors".

So... two questions to confirm I have understood this correctly:

1. Suppose I own an I5-3570K and a H77 motherboard. In theory I can overclock the my 3570K to 4.5GHz (for example...) by entering the BIOS and changing the multiplier from the factory value of 34 to 45 (for example).

Correct, yes or no?

2. Suppose I own an i5-2500K and a H77 motherboard. I cannot overclock this CPU to 4.5GHz as described above, but can still increase its clock speed to its max turbo frequency of 3.7GHz.

Correct, yes or no?

Thanks in advance!

wow. If the techs at Intel can't even answer this, I don't feel so bad about not being able to work out the answer myself.

The answear to that would be yes you can overclock and yes you will always be able to hit the max turbo mode.

Do how far the cpu overclocks u have to find out,

I my self have had i7's wich would do 5ghz and had some wich where stuck on lets say 4.4ghz.

So getting a 3570 will not asure you that it will hit 4.5ghz

Also keep in mind that all warrenty is gone when u overclock!

And its not all about the cpu other parts like

Mainboards, Memmory, cooling all have a hand in how far your cpu overclocks.

Hope this helps you.

Unlocked CPU on Locked motherboard, overclock is not possible.

Thats where your wrong Nipo,

It does alow you to go as high as the turbo multiplier will go wich is if i dont mistake 39x wich would kick your cpu to 3.9ghz.

And besides that it does alow you to play with the blck, most cpu's can do a 105 base clock wich would bring the cpu ip to 4.1 ghz

What i think Nipo is trying to say is basicly no u cant overclock like with a Z chip set push the multiplier to like 45x and run that way @ 4.5ghz.

In that case yes thats true.

but stil you could overclokc it a bit true the above mentiont methode.

cheers.

I think the bigger issue is not being able to control the voltage on H77.

thanks, I think that has answered my question!
