Intel® Centrino® Wireless-N 1030 working at 5ghz??

Hi there... i have a Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1030 working with my DELL XPS laptop.

I bought a ASUS DUAL BAND router, working at 2.4ghz and 5ghz. For my surprise, i read this wirelles N-1030 is single band... but i actually read every N wireless are compatible with 5ghz.

My question is... is it a hardware limitation or a software (firmware) limitation of my N-1030?

I won´t be able to wotk at 5ghz in my NEW laptop?

Is that is?

Dear Mb56,

I think you misunderstood the question above... wenderson wants to make his laptop to work at 5Ghz frequency band to avoid interference issues, commonly seen at 2.4GHz band. Channel bonding is not going to work in the way you're saying, because data will keep traveling at the 2.4Ghz band. Check on the 3rd link you've provided, it says: "Although it's possible to implement channel bonding in 2.4GHz it will not be as effective as 5GHz."

Funny because I always thought, as wenderson did, that any 802.11n adapter would work flawlessly with 5GHZ routers... maybe it was not clear for me either...

Yes you would be right, the 1030 is 2.4Ghz only, hardware limited, the 802.11n standard does not mandate 5Ghz support, it is optional, so alot of the "cheaper" Wireless-N adapters out there do not support 5Ghz.
