Hey everyone. I'm using a RT3WB080 with 8 segate 7200rpm 2TB drives in a raid 5 array. I am using this as storage for music production. I am getting errors sometimes from the software that it can not read from the disk fast enough. This seems crazy since when I did some tests I was seeing 1.5 GB/s read from the array. Can someone tell me the best way to optimize my setup to get the best read/write speeds from the array?
I posed some screen shots of my setup on photobucket. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I really want to get the most out of this setup.
Thanks,
Carl

Below is a good document:

You may want to update RAID Firmware. Check if your hard drive and drive FW is in Tested hardware and operating system list. Also check vibration, as SATA drive performance can be severely impacted by vibration.
I will read that document, but there are only a few options on this last page:

Can someone just tell me wha the proper configuration for these 6 or so settings to get teh best read/write speed out of the array?
Thanks again for the help.
Carl
Also, will updating the raid firmware delete my virtual drive or disturb the data on the raid 5 drive array in any way?
Thanks,
Carl
Also, I noticed that adaptive read ahead is not an option avilable. The only options I have are read ahead or not.
Carl
No.
It depends on you application, data and read/write pattern. There is no such optimal setting that fits all requirements, and that's the reason why we have that document.
I'd suggest you test different settings with your application and find the optimal settings.
I think I found something that works for me. I'll keep playing around with it. Thanks for the help.
Carl
What were the optimal settings you came up with? I'm having a similar problem.
