I just ordered a Lenovo laptop that has Core i3-2310M processor. Initially I was under the impression that all Sandy Bridge processors (along with the corresponding chipset, software) support WiDi 2.0. But I came across this webpage:
http://www.intel.com/consumer/products/technology/wirelessdisplay.htm#fragment-a-2
which seems to show only very few processors. And a lot of SNB processors are excluded on that list (All i3, i5 SNB processors). Then I did a little bit more research and found that some (or most) SNB processors are capable of wireless display (not sure of 2.0): at least as per site:
http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=52220&processor=i3-2310M&spec-codes=
However, I figured I would rather ask the Intel personnel whether the SNB processor that I got, i3-2310M, supports WiDi 2.0.
Thanks.
In general, if WiDi is preloaded on the system you purchased, then you will be good to go.
If it's not pre-loaded, then you can try to get it running on our own (unsupported), in which case you will need all of the platform ingredients listed on the first link you cited, in addition to a supported processor (2310M is supported per the second link). You will need to ensure you've installed the right drivers.

Thanks Shashi for your reply.
So, is the core i3-2310M supported for WiDi 2.0? [the one that supports 1080p transmission]. My laptop also has Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1000, Intel HD Graphics 3000. This is a Lenovo Edge 420s laptop. So not sure if it comes with all the required software (I will calls the technical support team and check with them). If not, can I install the required software for free? Or is there any hardware portion missing?
Thanks,
Raja S.
