Hey there,
I'm about to buy a new Intel 320 300GB SSD for my new Lenovo T420s.
Unfortunately I just realized that they come w/ 7mm slots so a regular 9.5mm drive won't fit.
Now I know there is (or at least should be) this spacer on top of the intel SSD that can be removed to make it a 7mm model.
The question is: Will this void my warranty?
And if it does, what other option do I have? Is there a special 7mm model (for Germany)?
Thanks in advance,
SFsix
SFsix,
The 9.5mm drive will fit given that removal of the spacer is completed with addition of shorter screws. Only 1 thing will stand in your way, and that is a plastic slide guide that somebody at work broke off to make the drive fit into the bay. Apparently the connectors are connected since it has Win7 64 bit loading at the moment. Hope that helps, good luck!
Do all 320 SSD series disks have that spacer???
I am running the intel 320 ssd in a new Lenovo T420s.
The only thing that would make me happier is if the drive was sata iii to take advantage of the full capability of the T420s.

Yes.
Please get the no warranty voiding in writing as Intel consistently answers queries on this subject with a "yes, it voids the warranty."
As per an official Intel CS representative:
Removing the picture frame (bracket) does not void the warranty.
It is difficult to state all the reasons that the warranty is not voided
EDITED: The email posted above is incorrect. It should read that "Removing the picture frame (bracket) DOES void the warranty."

As feedback - it would be Very useful to ship the drive with screws that can be used when the spacer is removed.
I agree i have a purchase order of Lenovo X1's and am going to be replacing the stock HDD with Intel 320 series 600GB models and need the shortened screws. Any place where i can get these? I Honestly wish Intel shipped the screws with the drive for our optional use.
