RE: How does Intel Xeon Processor 7400 Series (Dunnington) compare to RISC

Hey Intel fanboy, check out the new Sun T5440 ! You won't find ANY 4-socket and very few 8-socket servers that can beat the T5440 on performance, space or energy. It may cost a bit more up front (just like those hybrid cars) but if you calculate the energy savings over 3 years, you won't find a more energy efficient server out there!

Hank let me tag along with him today @ Oracle Open World, I was extremely impressed by a couple of things:

Oracle's awareness of social media
Having Dunnington Product available to show
Dedicated blogging section in the keynotes (to bad my ID didn't say blogger on it)
Paul's Keynote was fantastic, I'm looking forward to seeing that online as well

Thank You Hank for letting me tag along..

Well, I am back from Brazil now. Long flight, but well worth the trip. I met a few journalists interested in servers and I look forward to helping them get more information.

Check out some early responses to my presentation. Interesting how two different journalists used a similar picture (same me, same 4-way Intel 7300 chipset board I am holding) to show. Sites below are in Portuguese.
Call it pile on, but i want to shout "This is cool".

This is ground breaking.
What was once a "departmental server" - Xeon-based
and a "departmental database" - SQL Server* DB

Now deliver the fastest performing four socket solution on the planet.
Faster than any other architecture - including proprietary RISC, and faster than any other database.

If there was any doubt Intel Xeon could go head to head with big iron, it has been removed.

thanks for a great entry Tony. SSD's in mobile seems so obvious, but although there are many opportunities in servers, the exact usage models are still quite diverse.
I met with the chief architect of a large web based data firm. He is urgently looking at SSD solutions for his indexes. Raw performance of the drive isn't the problem - on a fresh indexing pass everything works great. His nemisis is fragmentation. Because of the large file size and highly dynamic nature of the task he has been forced to a highly striped and poorly utilized model, and still can not keep up with defrag. SSDs, where defrag is not relevant, offer an ideal solution.

I would add "anywhere fragmentation is a production problem" to your set of usage models.

Nice. i also use the computer and i think in the today world information is more useful for all the user and easy way to get the information. and also great thing that intel and other related companies save there data in a small thing like chip board hard drive and etc. i relate from real estate business by the name Merricks Resort, Barbados. i have also alot of clients detail which i save in the computer had drive .and i hope that intel introduce new things in which we can save our data easily.
