Problem with loss of network contact with some units of Dell Optiplex 755. We have quite a number that do not show the problem
Symptoms were described by one SysAdmin as follows:
"It had contact for 10 minutes, then the NIC was turned off for 5 minutes, then on for 10, off for 5 and so on."
Workaround was to turn off the ME function just after POST using <Ctrl-P> to get in. The standard password has to be changed first time in. In Windows XP, the three Intel Services implementing AMT must be disabled. Exact details by calling Dell support.
A new BIOS (A08) was released 2008-02-21, but it is still unclear if it will fix the problem. A BIOS version A07 was up for a couple of weeks, but it "disappeared" and the version was once again A04 for a few days before A08 went up.
