I have been successfully using the Intel Desktop Control Center version 5.0.0.148 since it was released earlier this year. All of a sudden today, when I tried to start the program, I received the message "Intel Desktop Control Center has stopped working", with the following two options. 1) Check for a solution and close the program or 2) Close the program. So I removed the program figuring that it might be corrupt and loaded the latest Desktop Control Center (version 5.5.0.42). It does the same thing. Any ideas?

Hi!
I confirm the latest 5.5.0.42 version of the Intel(R) Desktop Control Center should work fine on a system with the Intel(R) Desktop Board DP55KG. To further-troubleshoot the problem, I'd suggest the following:
1. Remove the current Intel(R) Desktop Control Center from Programs and Features.
2. Just to be 100% sure, restart the system into BIOS by pressing <F2> during the boot process. Once in the BIOS setup utility, press <F9> to restore BIOS default settings. Reset any customized BIOS settings. Clear all DMI event logs by setting the option to "Enable", which is located in the Advanced/Event Log Configuration section of the BIOS Setup utility. Press <F10> to save the new settings and reboot the system.
3. Reinstall the latest 5.5.0.42 once again and test.
Hope that helps!

Mr _Intel,
In your #2 you mention using the default bios settings load to clear settings, can the bios optional settings be used in the same way?
Tex.
optimal and default are the same afaik.
Salem_intel,
Thanks for the quick reply. I performed all your recommend actions, and the IDCC still will not load. In addition, I turned off all foreground and taskbar programs, and turned off both the firewall and the antivirus program just to make sure, but those changes did not help. I have included the message that shows up in the IDCC log each time I try to start the program:

Hi!
To further-troubleshoot on the Intel(R) Desktop Board DP55KG, I'd recommend the following:
1. Remove the Intel(R) Desktop Control Center once more.
2. Update the BIOS:
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=18755&ProdId=3064&lang=eng
Note: Once the update is done, please, restart the system into BIOS and repeat the following:
Press <F9> to restore BIOS default settings. Reset any customized BIOS settings. Clear all DMI event logs by setting the option to "Enable", which is located in the Advanced/Event Log Configuration section of the BIOS Setup utility. Press <F10> to save the new settings and reboot the system.
3. Re-install the Intel(R) Desktop Control Center and test.
Still no luck. Also, Intel's IDCC support group never replied to my email explaining the problem. Any one else experiencing this problem?
Hi, again!
Although not usual/necessary, at this point, I'd say try installing the latest Intel(R) Desktop Control Center from within Safe Mode; then, reboot in Normal Mode and test once again.
I can't waste any more time. After 20 years of using Intel motherboards it is time to look elsewhere.
I had the same issue. I sent the IDCC support group the log files and never heard back. It has never worked for me on Windows 7 64 bit. I gave up a while ago, but check back here once in a while out of curiosity.
Thanks for replying. At least I am not alone. I get email notices when someone posts, so that is the only time I will be revisiting the issue as well.
I tried installing the IDCC in Safe Mode, but a message came up stating that “The Windows Installer Service is not accessible in Safe Mode” and the install failed. After installing it in normal mode again, the same problem exists.
Hi!
At this point, I'd finally recommend backing up your data and running a clean install of the Operating System. Follow the critical driver installation order outlined as follows:
1) Fresh Operating System Installation. This means formatting and partitioning the hard drive.
2) Install the latest Intel(R) Chipset Software Installation Utility (INF Utility)
3) Install the latest device drivers
4) Install the Intel(R) Desktop Control Center.
Note: Just to be 100% sure, see to it that you use the most current Intel(R) Chipset Software Installation Utility, drivers and software, which are posted here:
Note: Intel recommends this clean installation as opposed to installing over the existing operating system. Without the reinstallation of the Operating System (OS), old information concerning the motherboard will be retained in the system registry. The inaccurate registry information may be saved to the motherboard system BIOS, causing errors during boot up or during normal operation.
5) Test running the Intel(R) Desktop Control Center.
